I didn’t have any down here and I just blew the second motor in my 2009 X5 in 14 months. It’s the V8, are they known to have problems? The first one blew at 67,000 miles and the second (that came from a crash) blew at 50,000. I have always had big motors and have always taken good care of my cars. Now I need another car and am thinking about getting a new one just because it comes with a warranty. I have never bought a new car before. And now I’m waiting on another crashed motor because there are no Parker rebuilds down here. Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads. Thoughts create, mind them well. |

One was grey, one was black. The grey one (toward the firewall) had a built in orifice for the PCV system. If this got swapped for a black one then you had unregulated wide open manifold vacuum drawing on the crankcase. This caused the seals to squeal as air went past them. |

Quoting: John B 76505050 I'm able to fix most of my issues just by google and YouTube . Case in point, my 2001 ML320 was sputtering and my fuel mileage went to shit. It turned out to be the MAS (mass airflow sensor) . Guy on youtube said to remove it (5min) and spray it down with special cleaner available at most auto part stores ($9), fixed the issue. That piece of shit mechanic that quoted me $205 to fix it can eat DICK. I hope Google and YouTube puts all those thieves out of work. We're not all thieves. Glad you got it fixed. Come on man. You would have put on a new one and charged over 200. I would have told you I can attempt to clean it, but there are no guarantees. If it dies again or doesn't fix it are you going to pay me for cleaning it? I don't trust a sensor as far as I can throw it if it malfunctioned once. Some will accept a cleaning and work ok, and some won't. A new one will work every time it comes out of the box. Your car is fixed, and I don't have to look at your mug twice for the same problem. mass airflow sensors are notorious for rarely actually failing but instead becoming contaminated with dust or grime. It doesn't take much, some could get in if your air filter is clogged, not installed right or even while you are changing the filter. The trick is to be very gentle cleaning it because the actual sensor is easy to ruin with high pressure or the wrong solvent as it involves a tiny element. Since this is a 100 dollar part it wouldn't hurt for a guy to try to fix it for free, like I have about a thousand times |
