I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey it laws; to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies." -William Page |

User ID: 76946759 United States 01/20/2020 12:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Fracking ? Omg think of all the jobs created with fracking! So we have some earthquakes ! Big deal. We need jobs and money to keep going ! Fuck animals, fuck plants, fuck waters, fuck lands, fuck everything ! We need money! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77587066 Drill baby drill. And never stop. People really need to get past this fracking thing. Fracking is not causing these earthquakes. It is wastewater disposal wells. They are 2 completely different things. Fracking in Kansas "In 2016, the U.S. Geological Survey found that wastewater disposal, rather than fracking, was the main cause of an increase in earthquakes throughout the central United States from 2009 to 2013. According to the agency, wastewater disposal wells raise pressure levels more than fracked wells. Larger amounts of fluid are used in wastewater disposal wells than in fracked wells; thus, wastewater disposal wells are more likely to produce induced seismic events than fracked wells." [link to ballotpedia.org (secure)] Induced Earthquakes "Fact 1: Fracking is not directly causing most of the induced earthquakes. Disposal of waste fluids that are a byproduct of oil production is the primary cause of the recent increase in earthquakes in the central United States. . . . In Oklahoma, less than 10% of the water injected into wastewater disposal wells is used hydraulic fracturing fluid. Most of the wastewater in Oklahoma is saltwater that comes up along with oil during the extraction process." [link to www.usgs.gov (secure)] After Hutchinson earthquake cluster, Kansas investigates injection wells "The Kansas Corporation Commission has launched an investigation to determine what’s causing a spate of earthquakes in the Hutchinson area, focused on the underground disposal of oilfield waste that’s been blamed for quakes elsewhere in southern Kansas, officials said Wednesday. . . . The average Kansas well generates 16 barrels of wastewater for every barrel of oil recovered. Hoffman said somewhat paradoxically, wastewater disposal in the 15-mile circle around the Reno County quakes is actually lower today than in was in 2015, when oil prices and production were booming."
