I Am Standing Upon The Seashore

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
 

She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come
to mingle with each other. 

Then, someone at my side says;
"There, she is gone!" 

"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my side
and she is just as able to bear her
load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. 

And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "There, she is gone!"
There are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

Hello GLP friends

I began hospice care at home a few days ago. I am requesting prayers please so I can remain strong for my family and others I am close to. If anyone can give a bit of emotional support please, it is always very welcome as well.

If anyone would like, I can write about life with hospice as well, in this thread.

Also, one amazing wonderful friend here on GLP has been by my side on this journey for a while now. Much love and many hugs to that friend. Thank you! (You know who you are)

While you can, write down your wants, needs, desires.

If you want to stay awake late at night, tell them it’s okay, no need for schedules.

Enjoy soft music, fresh cut flowers, reminiscing with loved ones. Keep pets near - they know and want to be with you. They take their jobs very seriously .

Enjoy some yoghurt, apple juice, try to stay hydrated.

Be very clear if you plan to ‘graduate’ at home that no matter how scary it can become - for you, your caregivers- that you want to stay at home.

We’re all here for you, if not in person, in Spirit.

Remember, you do not die, you just change form.

I wish I could come sit with you for a while...or lay next to you....
I am next to you, with every certainty of my being...

I’ve been a manager for hospice and I’m glad that you have utilized them. So many think that it’s the very end, and I have had so many people that I’ve cared for be on hospice for many years.

I’ve seen people, because of the hospice care that was provided, get better and no longer need the hospice service.

Whatever your need is, please know that if you have any questions, I’m always available to ask and I will also pray for you and yours.

Bless your decision, because I know it was a difficult decision to make.

Lord,
Please give this family the strength to endure the heaviness of this life. Keep this family strong through the storm. Give them the guidance and wisdom they need to navigate through this time in their lives.
