Why don't you stop being a cheap ass and build a wildlife proof chicken coop to put them in at night? Typical dumbass, lives in wildlife habitat and then wants the wildlife gone rather than adapting to their environment.

Seems a real shame to have to kill them.
Nothing keeps ‘em away, like urine around the boundaries or dog/s?

fox, yote, big cats and even coons give zero fucks about dogs and scents and other bullshit meant to scare them away. ive had fox take chickens at 2pm not 5 minutes after i had gone inside. i think my neighbor got that particular bastard.

I can understand killing introduced species but not native wildlife, unless it’s a clean kill for food.
 Quoting: Deadwood Shitterhands

question, how many chicken`s lives add up to the life of a big cat, fox or yote? especally after spending many hours, money, feed, time and energy raising chicks, and square footage of land for quarters and range? once a wild animal finds a domestic source of food it will keeep coming back. they will dig, smash and claw their way into some suprisingly well fortified enclosures.

i have been good so far with electric fence. thats the only things thats worked other than bodying the predators.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53502500

Credit to anyone who attempts other means first rather than just killing them indiscriminately. I appreciate it’s a tough situation, not judging, just a shame they can’t coexist is all.

Re: Bobcat in my homemade trap, chicken eater
I have successfully defended my chicken yard with 6 feet of chicken wire set in concrete at the bottom.

On the top, I have hot wire from my fence charger on insulators. I use plastic zip ties to pull the hot wire and chicken wire closer so they cannot squeeze under.

Once, I found that a raccoon had climbed the fence and gone under the hot wire. However, when he tried to escape with a young goose he had killed, it connected with the wire.

That was a badly burned goose carcass. I'll bet Mr. Coon never tries that again.

I moved up to a 15 mile fence charger that packs over 5000 volts. Accidentally touched it with a tool while I was wearing rubber boots and plastic gloves. Still knocked the hell out of me.

In the pasture I have lost goats though. The cats climb a neighbor's tree along the fence, jump over, kill and eat one of my goats, and then escape by jumping back up on the tree.

Pretty smart cats.

I am out of the goat biz. Lost too many to predators.

I will try cows next.

We lock our animals up at night. The cats start coming during the day.

Can't you do something about protecting the chickens rather than trap and kill the bobcat? As you said they are *awesome*.

I would have kept the kitty to breed with a domestic cat.

Last year I caught 5 fox , so I took these cats to the same person that has about 600 acres to release them there.
