John B User ID: 70637860 United States 01/21/2020 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was able to catch the SpaceX Falcon 9 confabulation during the IFA launch using my tracking software and telescope this weekend. Everyday Astronaut provided the high speed camera I used to film it at 120 fps for some awesome slo-mo footage of the booster's destruction. You can also see the Dragon capsule getting the hell out of there before the sideways booster comes into view. The test was a success and will lead to a human crew on the next Crew Dragon flight. Its says footage captured and provided by by Tim Dodd....are you taking credit ? There is a lot of Poaching of other peoples videos and claimed as their own. |

Yes, I'm taking credit for adapting my tracking software to the new model of LX200 telescope he and his team used to track the rocket. I worked closely with him on this launch. By all means, inform him I posted his footage if you like, he's already aware of it. He approached me about my software for this launch and agreed to let me use his footage. |

(OP) Senior Forum Moderator 01/21/2020 09:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No. It exploded when it turned sideways into a supersonic stream of air and was ripped apart by aerodynamic loads in a direction the rocket was not designed to withstand. how cum other rockets don't esplode then? Quoting: confusedBecause they usually don't shut off their engines at max-q, lose control authority, and turn sideways into the flow of air right when aerodynamic forces are at their maximum. you say now that they can esplode it they want to put ppl in it?!?!? nice suicide ride for some ppl i guess. crazy. Quoting: confusedThe test deliberately destroyed the rocket. I suggest you look up what the word deliberate means and stop making an idiot of yourself. The test proved the capsule can get away from an ailing rocket even at max q, the worst moment in the launch when the vehicle is experiencing maximum aerodynamic pressure (and the capsule then experiences even more under the thrust of its escape system). You can see the capsule getting away well ahead of the rocket in my video. |

Did it crash down at speed? Curious why they didn't couple a safe landing test for the capsule to the max Q separation test if that is the case. Any ideas why? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72502927 Stolen video? I used Everyday Astronaut's footage with his permission, attributed it to him, and labeled it prominently with his logo. Go on, tell him I "stole" his footage, he'll laugh at you for being so ridiculous. |

The thing screaming down towards the ocean was part of the rocket, not the capsule. It was prominent and streaking smoke behind it so that's what I followed after the explosion. It was extremely cloudy so I couldn't see the capsule at that point. |
