User ID: 73547556 United States 01/22/2020 08:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The family of Kristin Smart, the California college student who vanished 23 years ago after attending a party near her school, was reportedly told by federal agents to be prepared for news and to secure a family spokesperson. Quoting: Where Eagles Dare Denise Smart, the woman's mother, told the Stockton Record that she was contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was told to "be ready." "This is really going to be something you don't expect. We want to give you the support you need," she said she was told. The report said the FBI was not clear on what the development was, she was told that her family might want to "get away for a while," and she should secure a family spokesperson. The mother admitted to the paper that since she was told about the development she has had anxiety. Smart, who was 19 when she vanished, attended California Polytechnic State University and was last seen in the early morning of May 25, 1996, while returning to her dorm after a party near the campus. At the time, another student told authorities he left Smart near her dormitory after they and another female student walked back. [link to www.sfchronicle.com (secure)] What crap. Tell a family something like this and still not tell them anything? That's some real shitty agents and way of handling a case. I feel really bad for that family and as a mother myself, this would have been unacceptable. Last Edited by The Empress on 01/22/2020 08:39 AM |

If they found a body, it would have simply been reported like all the others you hear about. So what makes this case different? I'd say she's either been alive, committed a crime and just got caught, or was discovered in some sort of slave trade. It has to be more than just 'we found the body' if they're telling the family to be prepared, get a spokesperson and take a vacation. OR It was those Russian pranksters. I'm going with my first thought though... MnB15 |

Needs time to recover a bit maybe? Idk the only reason I can think of to handle it this way is if they found her alive but not in good shape and the victim requested they not tell her family until she was ready to see them. I'm hoping for that anyway, if they found her corpse and are not giving that information it is just cruel. They could tell her family and give them some time to make arrangements before making a press release otherwise. |

In the first couple of minutes you find out that Flores lawyer asked investigators if they would settle with manslaughter charges if he tells them where Kristin’s body is. Quickly afterward, the lawyer took this offer off the table. Hmmmmmm. [link to www.yourownbackyardpodcast.com (secure)] |

They either found her or her corpse. Quoting: Ben Franklin1776 Sounds like bullshit. The FBI is in DESPERATE need of some positive publicity right now. If they are teasing it like this they are definitely trying to build a media hype. No matter what the outcome, the FBI will spin it as a win for them! |

I taught Kristin and worked with her mom. I moved away from Stockton (thank God) several years ago. It was such a hard time for the family. What bullshit that they broke news to her and didn't tell her what was going on. Worse than knowing she was dead or locked in a bunker the past 24 years. Cough it up FBI! |
