Re: COVID**** STUDY: Neuroinvasion of SARS-CoV-2 in human and mouse brain p340
So now they're including numbers from people that weren't tested but were diagnosed clinically. That means that up until now the deaths reported were based only on patients that tested positive, not the ones that just got sick and died without being tested or that were diagnosed by clinical observation only. This would account for the discrepancy between numbers of dead reported and the activity at crematoriums that suggest a much higher number of dead. Why are they changing the way they classify the infected, sick and dead now after a more than a month of under reporting the numbers? Do they know that it's a matter of time before we have serious outbreaks outside of China and they are trying to save a bit of face? And now we have reports that people can go as much as 24 days without symptoms, while infecting family and strangers.
 Quoting: KeepingItReal

this is the reason they are giving

Now the ability to detect viral nucleic acid is constantly improving, but the accuracy of different reagents is different. Not all patients can detect nucleic acid positive, so there are a lot of clinical symptoms in the history of epidemiology and contact history. It ’s also like, but patients whose nucleic acid has not been confirmed are now listed as suspected cases. I suggest that such patients in Wuhan should be classified as clinically diagnosed cases because the positive rate of nucleic acid for confirmed patients is only 30. % ~ 50%, so it is necessary to set the level of clinical diagnosis.

Los Alamos National Laboratory says R0 for coronavirus COVID-19 value is likely to be between 4.7 and 6.6!

The study points to a doubling of cases every 2.4 days.

A doubling every 2.4 days is equivalent to a daily multiplier of 1.33.

Assuming Patient 0 was infected sometime around the 1st of December, 75 days have passed.

1.33 to the 75th power (1.33^75) is almost 2 billion.

That would mean almost every Chinese is infected. Not sure that is true at this time. I would believe 5 - 10 million at this point, not the entire country.

Yet.

The virus may have the ability to cause neurologic symptoms too. In addition, its theoretical ability to suppress fever development may make it harder to detect and more easily dismissed by people and the medical community, leading to greater risk of unmitigated spread.

It appears there are at least 21 deaths outside of Hubei province today (2/13). That number has been running about 5-6 a day. We will have to see if that's correct, but if it is, that's a significant leap in deaths outside Hubei.

the numbers will be out in about 12 hours

Gestalt #4 – SARS-2 Pandemic
 Quoting: NawtyBits

His mention of operatives on the ground is something I have long suspected as well. It's why the U.S. was one of the first countries in the world to tell its people to get the hell out of Wuhan. I think it's also why we are hearing the messaging starting to change around the virus...the talking heads have abandoned the term "low risk".

And to every troll that comes on these threads to discount the risk by repeating the same tired line "thousands of people die of the flu every year"...yes, yes they do. And many thousands more get infected and are sick and clog up ER's and family clinics and miss work and school. And that's just from seasonal flu. So now ADD Covid-19 to that mix. Scary days lie ahead.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) announced that as of 8pm today (February 13), the CHP is investigating three additional case of novel coronavirus infection, taking to 53 the number of confirmed cases so far in Hong Kong.

One case involves a 43-year-old man (the 51st case) who is a relative of the 66-year-old male patient of the 47th case confirmed on February 11. The patient has good past health and lives in Tsz Tin Tsuen, Tuen Mun. He developed cough since January 29, and diarrheoa and vomiting since Janaury 31. He consulted two private doctors during January 31 to February 8. The patient sought medical attention at Tuen Mun Hospital on February 12 and was admitted for management. His respiratory sample was tested positive for novel coronavirus and he is now in a stable condition. The patient had no travel history during the incubation period. He had attended a family banquet on January 30 where the patient of the 47th case was also present.

The other two cases involve a 67-year-old woman (the 52nd case) and her 37-year-old son (the 53rd case). They both had dinner with the patients of three confirmed cases (the 46th, 48th and 49th case) at Star Seafood Restaurant in North Point on January 26 evening.

The 67-year-old female patient, who is the younger sister-in-law of the 75-year-old male patient of the 46th case, has good past health. She lives at Mount Parker Lodge in Quarry Bay on weekdays and stays with her son at Heung Hoi Mansion on 28-32 O’Brien Road in Wan Chai on weekends. She developed cough on January 31 and then fever and chills since February 1. She consulted private doctors on January 31, February 3 and 7. She then sought treatment from Ruttonjee Hospital on February 12 where she was admitted for treatment. Her respiratory sample was tested positive for novel coronavirus and she is now in a stable condition. The patient had no travel history during the incubation period. Her close contacts, namely her daughter, son-in-law, grandson, granddaughter and domestic helper, are all asymptomatic and will be arranged for quarantine.

The 37-year-old male patient, with good past health, lives at Heung Hoi Mansion. He developed fever on February 8 and consulted a private doctor on February 9. He sought treatment from Ruttonjee Hospital on February 12 and was admitted for treatment. His respiratory sample was tested positive for novel coronavirus and he is now in a stable condition. The patient had no travel history during the incubation period.

A spokesman for the CHP said, "According to our preliminary epidemiological investigations, some of the confirmed cases are locally infected. The CHP strongly urged the public to maintain at all times strict personal and environmental hygiene which is key to personal protection against infection and prevention of the spread of the disease in the community."

The spokesman said, "On the personal level, members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes. The public should go out less and reduce social activities, and maintain appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible."

"As for household environmental hygiene, members of the public are advised to maintain drainage pipes properly and regularly pour water into drain outlets (U-traps); after using the toilet, they should put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs."

[snip]

To prevent pneumonia and respiratory tract infection, members of the public should always maintain good personal and environmental hygiene. They are advised to:

Wear a surgical mask when taking public transport or staying in crowded places. It is important to wear a mask properly, including hand hygiene before wearing and after removing a mask;
• Perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes; after touching public installations such as handrails or door knobs; or when hands are contaminated by respiratory secretions after coughing or sneezing;
Maintain drainage pipes properly and regularly (about once a week) pour about half a liter of water into each drain outlet (U-traps) to ensure environmental hygiene;
• After using the toilet, put the toilet lid down before flushing to avoid spreading germs;
• Wash hands with liquid soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds. Then rinse with water and dry with a disposable paper towel. If hand washing facilities are not available, or when hands are not visibly soiled, performing hand hygiene with 70 to 80 per cent alcohol-based handrub is an effective alternative;
• Cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissues into a lidded rubbish bin, then wash hands thoroughly; and
• When having respiratory symptoms, wear a surgical mask, refrain from work or attending class at school, avoid going to crowded places and seek medical advice promptly.

SIngapore 8 more today

As of 13 February 2020, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified eight additional cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, all of which are linked to previous cases.

Links between previous cases found

2. Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. This was made possible with the assistance of the Singapore Police Force.

a) Cases 8 and 9, as well as Cases 31, 33 and 38, are linked to The Life Church and Missions Singapore (146B Paya Lebar Road). This is a possible cluster involving five cases (Cases 8, 9, 31, 33 and 38).

b) Nine of the confirmed cases (Cases 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 34 and 40) are linked to the cluster associated with Yong Thai Hang (24 Cavan Road).

c) Three of the confirmed cases (Cases 30, 36 and 39) are linked to the private business meeting held at Grand Hyatt Singapore from 20 to 22 January.

d) Four of the confirmed cases (Cases 42, 47, 52 and 56) are linked to the Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.

e) Seven of the confirmed cases (Cases 48, 49, 51, 53, 54, 57 and 58) are linked to the Grace Assembly of God.

Investigations on these clusters are ongoing.

3. Contact tracing is underway for the other seven locally transmitted cases to establish any links to previous cases or travel history to mainland China. Case 44 was a contact of Cases 13 and 26. Case 55 is linked to Case 50.

A North Korean official was shot dead for going to a public bath while he was meant to be in quarantine for coronavirus, it has been reported.

The trade official was arrested and immediately executed after risking the spread of the deadly disease, according to South Korean media reports.

Sources said the official had been placed in isolation after travelling to China with the country’s leader Kim Jong-un.

He is said to have ignored the dictator’s threat to ‘rule by military law’ against anyone who left quarantine without approval.

Assuming then that some of the passengers will now be allowed to disembark and complete their quarantine ashore...which in the big scheme of things matters not because of this taxi driver. Guess it finally pays off to sail coach class (they are letting passengers with windowless cabins off first). So long Japan.

US announces 15th virus case, this one in Texas evacuee

Another case of the new coronavirus has been confirmed in a U.S. evacuee from China, this one in a person under quarantine in Texas.

Health officials announced the 15th confirmed U.S. case case Thursday. The infection was confirmed through a Wednesday night lab test.

The patient, who had been flown to at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, is now in isolation at a hospital and was reported in stable condition.

Comment: When these evacuees are in "isolation" at these military facilities, are the allowed to mingle with the other evacuees in isolation?

Does it mention if he was a teller? If not he may have been a manager, which would be worse than handling money...it means he would have been shaking hands with clients. Direct contact.

I'm pretty sure that the evacuees being held at Canadian Forces Base Treton are supposed to maintain minimum distance of 2m when getting fresh air outside.

Yes, 2m minimum as per CBC article...

An American biotech company says it created a coronavirus vaccine three hours after getting access to the virus' genetic sequence on Jan. 9, and now scientists are racing to get the vaccine on the market in record time.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals is based in Pennsylvania, but scientists in its laboratory in San Diego made the discovery.

"We have an algorithm which we designed, and we put the DNA sequence into our algorithm and came up with the vaccine in that short amount of time," Inovio's research and development director Dr. Trevor Smith told KVUE.

Comment: This looks like a "stock market" play. There are still months and months of testing.....first on animals, then a couple humans, then a big group of humans. Clinical trials take many months. Oh, and the SARS vaccine was a big failure, so don't think that finding a vaccine for a coronavirus is that easy. If finding a vaccine for a coronavirus was that simple, then they would have cured the common cold years ago, and made billions.
