1. You mentioned the doctor in Africa wanting to test but has no kits. Well, I'm an ICU nurse in the USA. At least where I am, no one gets tested unless coming from China or connected to one. Hear out one of my examples: pt has come from overseas (not china though) and been through 6 international airports within a month, last time being about 2 weeks ago.

Patient is in 30s, healthy/no hx prior, has every classic symptom of COVID19, within 2 weeks pt has progressed to the last stage being on ecmo, diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia now which is what happens to COVID19 patients. Even the MD agrees pt looks like a classic COVID19 case and yet per current policy Pt doesn't get tested and not even isolated and has been in an icu where only curtains separate patients.

I have other info that would make this a whole lot alarming but can't share for the risk of pt privacy. What are the chances that it's already here under the radar. I guess we'll know in a month or 2 or at least I will because I've been exposed to it quiet properly myself.

Anyways, it seems when it comes to testing at least, we are not doing much better than the good doctor in Africa. I wish in times like this governments would put in far more resources into testing/isolation/treatment before it's all too late.

Haven't seen it. Thanks. I can't see any way that COVID isn't already in the US with all the travel from china before the restrictions. It's worldwide, it just hasn't been looked for.

How can anyone get tested for this when a test costs "x" and the hospitals are such a scam they charge $30 for a $0.001 aspirin and $50,000 for an anascorp injection that costs less than $100?

As evil as it seems, that ship is the control module for this damn thing. Rate of transmission, intensity of infection, etc.

I get that it's frightening. Deeply. But we can't know anything from what China has divulged.

The guy in Toronto and his wife are still showing positive nasal carriage. He has been a carrier for almost a month but he's been symptom free for at least a week. What if there are chronic carriers?

Will they just quarantine them forever? And how many of the cured cases in china were actually " cured " vs "freed of the carrier state".

I'm glad Canada is at least doing something right in all of this mess by having high standards for release from quarantine. (Must have 2 neg tests in a row.)

But if its really this contagious and many people might be chronic carriers for who knows how long...

What is the way out of this dilemma? How long can they hold people prisoners in their own homes? How long should they?

Let's keep an eye on this guy and his wifey. we can get a good idea of duration and/or carriage state because canada wont release him until he has 2 negative tests

He fell ill on the plane, that was the 22nd of January. So its been 3 weeks now and he's been symptom free for at least a week (according to internet )

Of the 7, the only one who has been released is the girl in London Ontario and I believe there is 2 or 3 more in Vancouver with a presumptive status from local lab dx.

Is there anyone in the US that can share a treatment plan for US patients that present with this? I understand the testing will be near impossible due to criteria, but is this being treated as standard pneumonia with standard IV's and AB's?

Are most of the people on this cruise ship, Asian? Also, wondering, which percentage of people on the ship who are infected, are Asian.

Monotreme brings up something that's been concerning me. Why are so many health care workers infected? Obviously, they have been using the N95 masks. What level of protection is needed?

There are so many other issues with this emerging pandemic, that this one has been ignored, but should be front and center, and NOW, not tomorrow after we have thousands of more infected doctors and nurses. Would they be safer in the garb they use for ebola?

I, too, have been pondering this. The most likely possibility is that long hours of working without sleep, food, bathroom breaks, they got careless. Humans make mistakes.

Or, and this is less likely, 'standard precautions' are not enough, and full-blown self-contained breathing equipment is necessary to insure safety.

I think it's carelessness, but there's this little part of my brain that's not so sure.
