SEOUL, South Korea — The Daegu Army garrison restricted access and imposed self-quarantine for any U.S. troops who recently attended a local church linked to a cluster of new coronavirus infections as South Korea’s infection toll surpassed 80.

The top U.S. commander in South Korea also raised the risk level for the military community on the divided peninsula to moderate.

U.S. Army Garrison Daegu, about 200 miles southeast of Seoul, also recommended that members of the military community avoid public places and transportation in the city, including stores, restaurants and other heavily congested areas until a trace investigation is completed.

Schools on the base and several other activities were to be closed on Thursday, the garrison said, adding that conditions would be assessed the next day as South Korean authorities work to determine who has come in contact with infected patients.

I can see no way the virus isn't starting to really circulate in the US, we are just a few weeks behind Asia.

however. i think everybody outside of wuhan has a leg up. SK just closed schools and the city down. they ain’t going to let it run wild for a month.

Update (1010ET): Talk about a spike in deaths: Iran is now reporting 9 deaths after shocking the world by revealing that two Chinese nationals infected with the virus had died in the city of Qoms earlier this week.
The Iranian regime has reportedly imposed a China-style crackdown on Qoms, deploying military and crowd-control police across the city.

Update: Only references to 9 dead that I can locate are 9 Winnipeggers killed in Ukranian plane shootdown, 9 killed at shisha bar in Germany yesterday, 9 killed years ago in earthquake. Is anyone else seeing anything on Iran? Twitter maybe?

Coronavirus cases double in a day to surpass 100

South Korea’s fight against the coronavirus outbreak has entered a new phase of local transmission, with Daegu becoming a hot bed of COVID-19 infections with nearly 40 new cases reported in the southern city in just two days.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, the total number of infected people here stood at 104, with 70 of them in Daegu and nearby North Gyeongsang Province. Most of the cases have been traced to a church in the city that a 61-year-old woman, confirmed as the country’s 31st patient on Tuesday, had attended.

The government reported that a 63-year-old man, who died Wednesday, tested positive for the virus in a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of his death has yet to be identified.

There are at least 20 cases of coronavirus patients whose transmission path is unknown.

Iraqi heath ministry recommends travel ban to and from Iran after coronavirus deaths

Iraq's health ministry has recommended that the country should close its border with Iran and cease issuing visas to Iranians after a number of coronavirus cases were announced in the neighbouring Islamic Republic.

We definitely need a major update from the Iran Health Minister, there are many reports from all around Iran going on.

A central Beijing hospital reported 36 novel coronavirus cases as of Thursday, a sharp increase from nine cases from two weeks earlier, leading many to fear a potential explosion of infection numbers in the capital.

Among the infected at Fuxing Hospital in Xicheng district were eight medical workers, nine cleaning staff and 19 patients along with their families, the Beijing government's leading group for COVID-19 prevention and control work said at a press conference on Thursday.
