Sorry if this has already been asked, but are we screening people on flights from Italy, South Korea, Japan, etc?

Also, speaking of flights, what about people who own private plans? When they land and taxi over to their private hanger, there's no one there to screen them.

I was at a private hangar a few days ago where one of the planes came in from China and I wondered what's to stop super wealthy people from just flying anywhere they want. As we check people coming into the U.S. from Hubei, are we going to stop private jets from coming in, or will they start getting screened somehow?

our CDC ain't that smart. they think it is a bad cold and have no clue. i honestly think they are incompetant. they mishandled the ship, the flights, the isolation on bases, etc. they admit the tests are flawed and they don't know much.

it is beyond acting dumb. they did not have medical staff on the ground to handle a fever at the base in CA. they are not ready and staffed to handle sick with the great military might of the US. tell me why we couldn't have had Dr's,CDC staff, and equipment flew out to the CA base?it is ignorant, irresponsable, negligent, almost criminal, and beyond idiotic.

we have the greatest military and medical ppl in the world, but we couldn't handle a kid with a cold fever at a military base. we took the kid from the base, out of quarantine,to the hospital. away from his mom and dad, not knowing if they would ever see him alive again. this was our great nation's leaders at work. it borders on insanity.

that tell u how prepared and smart our ppl are? we are beyond Flucked. we'd stand a better chance if China nuked DC than to leave the CDC run this. there is no excuse for how this was handled. i expect TRUMP will start firing them soon, next week.

I have seen enough data - the 2nd country, the 3rd country, the 4th country. THIS will be a global pandemic.

The curves will continue ascending exponentially before tapering.

What can you do that's under your control to reduce your chances of infection?

- Wash your hands
- Don't touch your face, nose, or eyes
- If you buy a mask, don't keep adjusting it - all you're doing is repeatedly touching your face
- Spray bleach solution on door handles, etc. (Per the label on the bottle, use 1/2 cup bleach per gallon of water, which equates to 1 fluid ounce of bleach per 32 ounce spray bottle)
- Carry around Clorox wipes and use the wipes to touch elevator buttons, etc.
- Bleach and heat dry your laundry
- Stay away from crowds
- Stay 12 feet away from anyone coughing
- Microwave your food
- Park in the sun
- Set up UV lights
- Work from home
- Tell your loved ones
- Yell at assholes when they don't wash their hands

BREAKING: W.H.O tells media they already declared a #coronavirus PANDEMIC using a new name.

WHO clarifies they no longer declare pandemics.

They now declare a public health emergency of international concern instead.

They did that on Jan 30th.

This infuriates me!! I just posted on the WHO's fb page and also wrote something on my own page and surely it will not be seen by anyone. Or the sheep will ignore it and scroll to see the useless stuff (yeah, your dog is adorable, for the 100th time. And I could care less what the hell you ate for dinner!).

I can't believe they "took out" the declaration of "Pandemic". Is it me? I'm so pissed about this!!

The WHO doesn't have to declare it for it to be a pandemic. The word means a disease that occurs over a wide geographic area and affects a high proportion of people. It's been a pandemic for more than a month. Keep in mind that most of the people making decisions at the WHO are not really medical professionals. They are mostly political appointees that rose through the ranks of administration of medical matters. They usually put political and economic concerns above the concerns of the medical professionals that try to inform them but are often ignored. Administrators are the bane of doctors, nurses and medical technologists.

So, that's clusters in 2 churches and a psych ward, plus several "independent" cases.

They are not screening private planes, AFAIK. When a private plane lands in the US, Customs goes right to the plane and inspects, and I doubt they are taking temperatures.

I'm not sure how airport screening works, but we know it doesn't really work anyway. And the CDC has shifted emphasis away from containment, to mitigation anyway. I would think all international passengers are passing through some sort of screening inbound, but that's tilting at windmills.

I'm trying to get caught up from being mostly away the last 24 hours.

Considering the situation outside of China, I will be posting a lot less about China, as it's not nearly as important as Italy, SK, Japan, HK. And the US.

We have a few weeks, maybe, until we are looking at mitigation measures in the US. It went from 0 to 60 in Italy in 2 days. From "low risk" to lock down. 2 days. I hope you are paying attention. Our gov't will look and see what others are doing, and will see what works, and what doesn't.

Get ready now. You have time. You don't have to fight crowds today, tomorrow, this week. Make plans for your kids if they close schools. Are you a business owner? Try to come up with a Continuation of Operations Plan. Can you deliver? Work from home? Figure this shit out now, while you can think clearly.

We, as a Civilization, are coming to a cross-roads. It won't be the pandemic that dooms us, it will be how we react to it. It's the secondary and tertiary "infections" that will doom us. Ignorance and panic.

The WHO and CDC are reactionary. When TSHTF, the CDC will react. It will be too late, the cat will be out of the bag.

Buckle up. It's coming.

Twelve people have died and up to 61 have been infected with the new coronavirus in Iran, Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said on Monday.

Most of the coronavirus cases have been in Qom, a Shi’ite Muslim holy city 120 km (75 miles) south of the capital Tehran.

A parliamentarian representing Qom, Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, said on Monday 50 people had died in the city in the past two weeks from coronavirus, noting the government was late in announcing the outbreak and that the city does not have adequate equipment to deal with the health crisis, according to the ILNA news agency.

Harirchi disputed the figure and said in a news conference on state television that if the number of dead in Qom were even one quarter of 50 he would resign.

This is from the CDC COVID19 page, updated yesterday.

Risk Assessment

Outbreaks of novel virus infections among people are always of public health concern. The risk from these outbreaks depends on characteristics of the virus, including how well it spreads between people, the severity of resulting illness, and the medical or other measures available to control the impact of the virus (for example, vaccine or treatment medications). The fact that this disease has caused illness, including illness resulting in death, and sustained person-to-person spread is concerning. These factors meet two of the criteria of a pandemic. As community spread is detected in more and more countries, the world moves closer toward meeting the third criteria, worldwide spread of the new virus.

The potential public health threat posed by COVID-19 is high, both globally and to the United States.

But individual risk is dependent on exposure.

For the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low.
Under current circumstances, certain people will have an increased risk of infection, for example healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19 and other close contacts of persons with COVID-19. CDC has developed guidance to help in the risk assessment and management of people with potential exposures to COVID-19.

However, it’s important to note that current global circumstances suggest it is likely that this virus will cause a pandemic. In that case, the risk assessment would be different.

What May Happen

More cases are likely to be identified in the coming days, including more cases in the United States. It’s also likely that person-to-person spread will continue to occur, including in the United States. Widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the United States would translate into large numbers of people needing medical care at the same time. Schools, childcare centers, workplaces, and other places for mass gatherings may experience more absenteeism. Public health and healthcare systems may become overloaded, with elevated rates of hospitalizations and deaths. Other critical infrastructure, such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, and transportation industry may also be affected. Health care providers and hospitals may be overwhelmed. At this time, there is no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 and no medications approved to treat it. Nonpharmaceutical interventions would be the most important response strategy.

Comment: NPIs include: school and business closings, social distancing, canceling public events, closing public buildings, shelter-in-place orders, quarantines.

It's more than obvious that the numbers coming out of China are bogus and the international medical "authorities" are incompetent. How did Iran and Italy go from zero cases to multiple dead overnight? Now that it's spreading outside of the grip of Chinese censorship, we should get a more realistic picture of how this disease works. It's not looking good.

I think that health departments were relying on info provided out of China and by the WHO to decide on the threat level. These health people knew the info was hinky, but the the logic was, at least we have something we can work with to plan. Now we are seeing a truer picture in Italy and South Korea, not to mention Japan and Hong Kong.

Now that we have outbreaks in more open countries, we will get a much picture of how this virus will affect the rest of the world. And this picture isn't pretty.

Oh, and hubris. Our CDC has only recently appeared humble in it's dealings about COVID.

I can't overstate the fact that most health authorities at all levels are not medical professionals. If they ever worked with patients it was a long time ago. They fell into administrative positions and don't understand what happens on the front lines. They are mostly political appointees working for some political agenda. In a word, they are incompetent. I feel bad for the medical professionals on the front lines.
