I might be just a conspiratard, but do you guys remember that CDC doctor who went missing and was found in a lake or something and ruled a suicide? There was talk, I believe, that he was going to blow a whistle about flu shots (if I recall correctly?)

I don't remember his name or how long ago it was, exactly, but this current outbreak brought him back to my mind.

Anyone think he could have known something about this? Of course, I realize I have no real reason to think it's connected. Could just be because his death was so eerie.

Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

See? This is the kind of ridiculous, unhelpful bullshit you get when your thread gets pinned.

Pure BS, the DOOM IS OFF as allways, relax bro. This is an idiot doom like ebola or another "Doom" virus.

I was thinking the same thing. They scared us with Ebola and it turned out to be nothing. Maybe they are harvesting our loosh.

I wasted 15 seconds of my life reading about loosh farming when I could have been getting important news.

Can you hear #wuhan people cry? There are thousands of people who may be affected by the #coronavirus (much bigger than official reports) but most of them are rejected by the hospitals. Tomorrow from 10 am, all public transportation will be closed.

If this is true, this is HUGE, IMHO. Perhaps they are getting out ahead of the WHO press conference. This is not a decision to be made lightly.

Wuhan airport services over 20,000,000 people a year. Closing that is a very big deal.

For the first time in many years, my pucker factor just increased exponentially.

I hope this is twitter BS.

So, I can't find where a city has been quarantined like this, as a whole. I'm guessing that in 1917-1919, some small towns likely quarantined, but never on the scale of Wuhan. Never. The decision path that leads to a quarantine of a city of 11M people is a treacherous one, and it's not a decision taken lightly. How bad must things be to go from 0-60 in days. China has been withholding info, and is now going to pay a steep price. Will the rest of the world pay too? Time will tell.

I suspect the WHO declaration will not be a good one.

This is going to cause absolute panic in Wuhan, as unprecedented as this is. People there are going to read this as they are trapped, and they're right. The communist government will, predictably, crack down on anyone trying to flee the city and I bet we'll see a curfew implemented soon.

People used to laugh at me for being prepared to weather something like this. Just because something hasn't happened in 30 years, doesn't mean something can't happen.

People have bills to pay, kids to feed, etc. The only way this will work is if China declares abank holiday, all bills are suspended, and can provide food and necessities for all 11M people. Otherwise, people will still be going places and doing things, plus the Black Market will smuggle items in and people out, and the quarantine will be useless.

At best, it slows things way down, and gives the rest of the world time to prepare.

I'd say that's pretty good confirmation, and pretty damn close to the full quarantine they were talking about yesterday.

I've still got all my N95s, plastic sheeting, bleach, and other preps from ebola. I just don't tell anyone except all you crazy people around here. The neighbors laugh at you, until they need your stuff. Then, you have to start killing people, and I don't need that kind of trouble in the middle of another disaster.

Ebola? Child. lol. I have my stuff from H5N1 almost 20 years ago. But, today is a good day to inventory and see where I lack.

I'm thinking the Wuhan quarantine caught WHO off guard, and that's why the presser is late. WHO is scrambling to not look like idiots, is my guess.

How do you keep 10 million people in the city and not let them out?
If the military gets involved and blocks roads and access thing are really heading south fast!

Officials in Wuhan announced a complete travel ban on its residents amid a coronavirus outbreak that has killed 17 people and infected more than 550 others throughout China, state media outlet CCTV said on Wednesday.

The ban, which was issued by the outbreak command authority in Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, said that from 10am on Thursday, urban buses, subways, ferries and long-distance passenger transport would be suspended in the city.

Flights and trains departing from Wuhan will also be temporarily suspended. The notice did not say when the services would resume.

The notice did not mention private cars but said “citizens should not leave the city unless there are special conditions”.

I'm curious as to how this will be enforced. The level of response to someone trying to leave the city will be very telling. Will the military attempt to cordon off the city?

Right.
Plus people were already spreading this January 2nd, so it's elsewhere already.
