How are particulate filters classified?

There are nine classes of particulate filters which are broken down into three series: N, R, and P. Each series (N, R, and P) is available at three efficiency levels: 95%, 99%, and 99.97%. The N series filter is used in environments free of oil mists. The R series filters can be exposed to oil mists, but should only be worn for one work shift. The P filter can be exposed to oil mists for longer than one work shift.
What is the color coding for gas mask chemical cartridges/canisters?

All cartridges are assigned a color designating the type of contaminant they filter:
Contaminant Color Coding on Cartridge/Canister
Acid gases White

Hydrocyanic acid gas White with 1/2 inch green stripe completely around the canister near the bottom.

Chlorine gas White with 1/2 inch yellow stripe completely around the canister near the bottom.

Organic vapors Black

Ammonia gas Green

Acid gases and ammonia gas Green with 1/2 inch white stripe completely around the canister near the bottom.

Carbon monoxide Blue

Acid gases & organic vapors Yellow

Hydrocyanic acid gas and chloropicrin vapor Yellow with 1/2 inch blue stripe completely around the canister near the bottom.

Acid gases, organic vapors, and ammonia gases Brown

Radioactive materials, except tritium & noble gases Purple (magenta)

Pesticides Organic vapor canister plus a particulate filter
Multi-Contaminant and CBRN agent Olive

Any particulates - P100 Purple

Any particulates - P95, P99, R95, R99, R100 Orange

Any particulates free of oil - N95, N99, or N100 Teal

I also read that they have some effect as well

Do a rubber glove test put tight rubber gloves on your hands and them blob about the size of quarter or a bit more of water based craft paint in cup of one hand ..close your eues sing happy birthday while washing your hands with the rubber gloves on pretending the paint is soap..open your eyes and look at all the spots you have missed on the gloves

I just got back from a grocery store in SoCal .... the word might already have some spooked, I saw three people wearing masks including one employee ... probably GLP'ers lol

The Seattle man who tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from China recently was kept in isolation and evaluated using a robot after arriving at Providence Regional Medical Center - Everett.

Dr. George Diaz, section chief of infectious diseases at the hospital, said that staff was contacted by the health department and asked to admit and treat the man, who has not been identified, once the positive coronavirus test results came back. Diaz said the man was transported to the hospital via ambulance from his home and placed in an isolation pod.

They are starting to arrest low level officials in China for not doing enough to stop this epidemic.

Social media reports say Shantou, a city of 5 million in the southern coast of China will go on full lockdown. No one allowed out, no one allowed in. Two confirmed cases there. First city outside of Hubei province to lockdown.

NEW: The U.S. State Department says a charter flight will evacuate American diplomats and private citizens from Wuhan on Tuesday, Jan 28. The plane will go to San Francisco. Priority will be given to people at greater risk from coronavirus.

#2019nCoV: There are ~2000 confirmed cases in 30 provinces in mainland China, up ~700 today. 14 other countries/territories have reported 47 cases. There's clearly a lot of illness & more big jumps ahead.
It is a very tough time in China. Wishing them strength, especially HCWs.

That's how it has to be done if they're going to get a handle on this thing.

China has the ability to do that.

The US has no such ability.

Once it begins ravaging our own country, it really will be uncontrollable because we can't do those things.

Hell, we have MAJOR CITIES that ALLOW open defecation! Isn't it San Fran that literally publishes a "POOP MAP" so visitors can AVOID the streets that have the most human excrement on them?

Imagine THOSE cities trying to "lock it down" to keep a KILLER DISEASE from spreading!

Not everyone gets sick, not everyone gets seriously sick, and it's highly unlikely that 1/3 of the world will be dead in a few months. Like this has the potential to get pretty bad, but not like that.

Way too early to tell if this virus prefers a certain genotype. I would expect 100% of the cases in the US to be imported. One shouldn't assume that the suspect cases in the US are all Chinese. We just don't know yet.

Give it another week.

But, coronaviruses aren't generally picky.

Since the virus started in central China and there’s a two-week incubation period, it stands to reason that the only cases would be Chinese currently. If, as you said, in another 8-10 days, all the cases are still ethnically Chinese, we could start to be suspicious that it discriminates, but I very much doubt that will be the case.

Agreed. It may kill millions, or 10's of millions, but I can't believe that it would kill 3 billion.

Now, infrastructure and societal collapse....who knows.

If this continues the way it appears to be continuing, a lot of people who never even got nCoV will have died.

Now, before I start my daily news dump, I'm going to relax with a soak in my hot tub.
