NYC issues new guidance for people to wear a face covering when outside in public

New Yorkers are now advised to wear a face covering when outside and near other people, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference today.

De Blasio stressed that it does not mean that New Yorkers should wear a medical mask when outside and that they should be left for healthcare workers.
"“It could be a scarf. It could be something you create at home like a bandana," de Blasio said."

The guidance come after a study was released yesterday about asymptomatic spread of coronavirus.

“When you wear the face covering you are protecting everyone else,” de Blasio added.

The order to wear a face covering does not replaces social distancing orders, de Blasio said.

I didn't have time to watch the vid, but I wouldn't be surprised at those numbers.

I now know someone who lost a grandmother tonight to COVID, her grandfather is also infected and not doing well, and their caretaker, my friend's aunt, is also infected.

I see this more and more. People only focusing on possible numbers of Covid deaths. They can’t seem to look beyond as the dominos fall.

Our president said two weeks until the peak, but one of the models I was looking at shows the peak at four weeks, with 2,500+ DEATHS PER DAY (let me say that again: "PER DAY") at the end of April.

Meanwhile, testing and ventilator production will be ramping up, but they are behind and who knows if they can get in front of this.

Is anyone else’s local grocery still not fully stocked. I live in a very small community with one big commercial store and one small one. The shelves are slim. Even at like Dollar Stores. It has to make one wonder if supply chain has been slowed or something?

I'm really concerned about this hiome made mask/bandana recommendation. It may offer some protection, but not a lot. It's more for the mask wearer to not spread his germs, and not for the unifected to avoid getting it. It's going to give people a false sense of security. N95 or higher people. Do not feel guilty for buying masks a month or 2 ago when there were hundreds in every store in the country.
