The virus is now known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), while the name of the disease it causes is now called COVID-19. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention almost immediately corrected the announcement, noting SARS-CoV-2 was not known to be an airborne virus. The centre confirmed the virus appears to spread via droplets, direct contact and by coming into contact with contaminated surfaces and objects. The World Health Organisation agrees. So far no infectious virus has been recovered from captured air samples. This would need to occur to demonstrate the virus was airborne. [snip] But smaller particles aren’t implicated in the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Smaller particles remain suspended in the air and evaporate very quickly (at less than one-tenth of a second in dry air). They leave behind gel-like particles made of proteins, salts and other things, including viruses. These leftovers are called “droplet nuclei” and can be inhaled. They may remain aloft for hours, riding the air currents through a hospital corridor, shopping centre or office block. This is what we mean when we talk about something being airborne. [snip] But there’s more to airborne spread. To infect humans, the droplet nuclei need to contain infectious virus. The virus must be able to land on our mucous membranes – the soft lining of our ears, nose, conjunctiva (eyelid), throat and digestive tract and it must be able to enter our cells and replicate. There also needs to be enough virus to overcome our early immune responses to the invader and start an infection. So a few stars have to align for airborne infection to result. [/[snip] But airborne transmission wouldn’t be a shock We already know the measles virus can remain aloft in a room for up to 30 minutes after an infected person leaves it. Likewise, the MERS coronavirus has been captured in infectious form from hospital air samples and found to be infectious. So there is some precedent. A top Communist official appointed by Beijing to handle the crisis said his team could not confirm the exact scale of the epidemic in the city, but warned the number of potential carriers could be 'quite large'. |

So, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus — officially named COVID-19 — as a global health emergency, regional governments began taking concrete action. To date, no case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Latin America/Caribbean region, according to the Pan American Health Organization, which is helping the region prepare for any possible cases. Jamaica is one of several Caribbean territories — including Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Dominica, and Trinidad and Tobago — to impose travel restrictions to and from China, after COVID-19 was traced back to a market in Wuhan, China, a city of 11 million people. As of February 8, 2020, Barbados had not imposed a ban but insisted that it is conducting rigorous screening at all ports of entry. But, it's easier to jump in to the middle of a thread and spew crap he knows nothing about. I'm just deleting the useless crap. So, by your summation, give it another 2 weeks? Serious question, not trolling. That's what I've been saying. I've been watching Hong Kong and Singapore, and things are starting to move faster there. I think we will be where HK and Singapore are in 2-4 weeks, maybe a little longer, without strong mitigation measures. It took china over a month and a half to get where they are. It's been less than 2 weeks for Japan, HK, and Singapore, and we are seeing community acquired cases in those areas. Patience, sir. It's coming...or it's not. Virologists say it's coming. The CDC says to expect widespread infections in the US. So, I prefer to listen to experts I've been following for years, than to you, who have made assertions without evidence. The only evidence I have is that the government lies to us about everything to further prote their control and agenda. Just look at 911. January 19. I hope the warmth is really slowing it down, 20,000 people from Wuhan were just in Thailand a few weeks ago and I've been worried all of Thailand would sick, still may happen I guess. From sharon sanders: Ummm..... Yesterday's cumulative total was 59,804. link Add today's new cases of 5,090 (see above) and the sum = 64,894. The above report says the cumulative total today is 63,851. The difference is 1,043 which is the exact number included in a parenthesis referred to as being in Hubei province. So apparently the two numbers need to be added together now. Same thing with the deaths. Yesterday's cumulative death total was 1,367. Add today's deaths of 121 and the sum = 1,488. The above report says the cumulative total today is 1,380. If you add the Hubei province number that follows in the parenthesis of 108 you get 1,488.
