What does this mean?

Los Alamos National Laboratory says R0 for coronavirus COVID-19 value is likely to be between 4.7 and 6.6!
[link to www.medrxiv.org]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72535054

The study points to a doubling of cases every 2.4 days.

A doubling every 2.4 days is equivalent to a daily multiplier of 1.33.

Assuming Patient 0 was infected sometime around the 1st of December, 75 days have passed.

1.33 to the 75th power (1.33^75) is almost 2 billion.

That would mean almost every Chinese is infected. Not sure that is true at this time. I would believe 5 - 10 million at this point, not the entire country.

Yet.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76708798

from NBC News Feb 13, 2020:

"In fact, it appears nothing unusually sinister occurred in the past 24 hours that would make the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, any more dangerous than it was the day before.

The increase "largely comes down to a change in how cases are being diagnosed and reported," Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO's health emergencies program, said. "This does not suggest a significant change in the trajectory of the outbreak outside China.""

A North Korean official was shot dead for going to a public bath while he was meant to be in quarantine for coronavirus, it has been reported.

The trade official was arrested and immediately executed after risking the spread of the deadly disease, according to South Korean media reports.

Sources said the official had been placed in isolation after travelling to China with the country’s leader Kim Jong-un.

He is said to have ignored the dictator’s threat to ‘rule by military law’ against anyone who left quarantine without approval.

[snip]

Another official is said to have been exiled to a North Korean farm after trying to cover up his travels to China, where coronavirus emerged.

He was reportedly a member of the isolated country’s National Security Agency.

Health experts warn Congress coronavirus may hit US hard in next two to four weeks

Leading health officials expect to see a significant uptick in coronavirus cases nationwide.

“We're going to start to see those outbreaks emerge sometime in the next two to four weeks,” said Scott Gottlieb, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner. “We should be leaning in very aggressively to try to broaden diagnostic screening right now, particularly in communities where there is a lot of immigration where these efforts could emerge to identify them early enough that they'll be small enough that we can intervene to prevent — prevent more epidemic spread in this country.”

[snip]

“I don't think we should be planning for the onesie-twosie cases that we've been seeing thus far in the United States,” said Asha George, executive director of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense. “We have to plan for the possibility that we have thousands of cases, you know.”

[snip]

Gottlieb said he believes China first saw the epidemic spread internally in November and doubts the Chinese government’s data are sound. The coronavirus was confirmed to be in the U.S. in January, unbeknownst to the public. Chinese officials announced the first known human-to-human transmission on Jan. 20.

To stem the #coronavirus, the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong announced the suspension of public Masses on Sundays and weekdays from February 15 to 28, and cancelled the Ash Wednesday liturgy that marks the beginning of the Lent.

Keep them in your prayers.

More social distancing in HK. They are slowing walking people in to avoiding close contact. Schools, gov't office, now the catholic churches....all for only 53 confirmed. Good job, HK, I hope it works.

The US has top of the line health care, no doubt. However, there are a finite number of ventilators and ECMO machines in the country. Once demand gets to a certain point, all bets are off.

I think the US peaked in hygienic practices a few decades ago. There are many articles about how many of the younger population don't bathe regularly. People are on the shitters using their phones for whatever. Countless people just walk out the restrooms without washing hands. Anything short of fine dining while eating out is a recipe for a good bout of diarrhea. I'm 53 and nothing, I mean nothing is as clean as it once was. It's astounding how filthy we've become. I'm not hating on my country, just telling it like it is

 Quoting: GNorthen

Never use GLP as a microcosm of American thinking. This is hardcore niche here.

The average microcosm of American thinking right now is nothing along the lines of anything here. They're thinking about their sportsball team and statistics, the Kardashians or whatever celeb idol they worship, when the Mcrib will come back and why they ever took it away, why Netflix is cancelling Friends and what will they do with their downtime after that happens, and how to get their rent down while working two jobs to pay off their student loans before they're 50, if they don't die of alcoholism or opiate abuse first to numb the pain.

They haven't the foggiest idea any of this is going down. If it's not on the Zionist controlled mainstream media they don't know about it and definitely don't want to be talking about it unless their idol is twatting about it. And today's hottest twat topic is "#Galentines Day".

So if you want a microcosm of American thinking, try to get in their heads, think "#Galentines Day" right now, in the midst of all that's going on that's what's on their collective mind. And ask yourself, when exactly is the McRib coming back and how can I get it cheaper than they sell it for because I can't afford that shit after these student loans. Then you'll have a deeper understanding of what the drones are buzzing about.

Here you will find all kinds of shit from people who know what the fuck is actually up and will scare the shit out of you with their uncanny ability to read between the lines, to people who are obviously weeks off their meds, to people who would be a better fit in 11th century with their ideals and zealotry never once possessing the conscious awareness that they are exactly like everything they say they stand against and everything in between, but a microcosm of popular thought this is not so take that as you will.

It is a place of free thought, mostly, and free speech, mostly and that's becoming increasingly rare. It's a place we can assemble and try, together, to discern the bullshit from the gold nuggets trapped in the turds. It's dominated heavily here by the extreme right wing post Trump, but it didn't always use to be this way. They have their place as well and I'd reckon they will be some of those left standing after all of this goes down because they are preparedness slanted, while most are not. So they gravitate here to be among like minds and that tips the balance heavily in their favor for presence on this site. But I do trust that their awareness of their values are being eroded in the name of a new world order being forced on us, an ugly order of lies, and they are ready to at least shine a light on that ugliness where others don't even want to bother to look.

Most people can't process information like this, or don't want to. They don't think like this, it's not the way their energy is, it physically causes them discomfort to go this far out of their box. And you won't find many here who have that level of energy. Because they don't gravitate towards it. That's just the way it works, nothing new about that.

The massive deaths in Hubei Province are the result of a failed coronavirus / SARS vaccine experiment. The likely source of 2019-nCoV.

Notice very few are dying outside Hubei Province.

It's still unknown how dangerous the spreading virus actually is in the long run. But it is not the "bioweapon" many of you think it is.

“I don't think we should be planning for the onesie-twosie cases that we've been seeing thus far in the United States,” said Asha George, executive director of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense. “We have to plan for the possibility that we have thousands of cases, you know.”

Gottlieb said he believes China first saw the epidemic spread internally in November and doubts the Chinese government’s data are sound. The coronavirus was confirmed to be in the U.S. in January, unbeknownst to the public. Chinese officials announced the first known human-to-human transmission on Jan. 20.

From another forum #1 : I am almost 7 months pregnant and had the same conversation with my husband. I work in a large hospital as an RN. Not worth the risk to my life or my child’s life. Is it selfish- sure. Do I care? Not really.

and

#2 : My wife and I are expecting a baby this summer. We talked about if it did get bad she would resign and become a stay at home mother. At least until everything was better. No need to risk anything

there were half a dozen more admissions in the thread.

Consider 25-50% of the staff quitting - how will the hospitals look? Wuhan has over 1,700 medical staff infected now and they are having to bus in medical students. (expendables)

>>Reuters reports that 1,716 health workers have been infected by the coronavirus and six of them have died, as of Tuesday.

Have any caucasians died yet?
Thousands of them live and work in China.

For arguments sake, let's say China dropped the ball, lied, are still lying, and they tried to contain the outbreak too late.

How is the infection curve looking in a country using disinfectants and modern medicine.

Is the curve still exponential? Are we f#$%ed?

The million dollar question.

The US has top of the line health care, no doubt. However, there are a finite number of ventilators and ECMO machines in the country. Once demand gets to a certain point, all bets are off.
 Quoting: NawtyBits

Wait what? the US is ranked the worst in the developed world when looking at Health care system performance vs Spending
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78453902

Perhaps. But the US has thousands of ventilators and hundreds of ECMO machines, and it this thing spreads freely here, we are in better shape than most, if not all countries.

Hey nawtybits, I really appreciate this thread it deals in facts not fear. Have you heard about this?

I hadn't seen that specifically, but that's to be expected. The US is still trying to develop a serum test to find antibodies in the recovered. The CDC said 3 to 4 weeks they hope to have one.

It probably won't take 4 weeks as we already have 1000 in LA, 200 in Atlanta, and smaller spotty numbers in other areas.
Unless the US gets tougher and allows these people to self isolate, it will spread. How closely are they watching these people to make sure they are staying home and away from others? I don't trust that.
Hence, a good three weeks of stuff in my house to stay locked in if it comes to that. If not, there are just some things I won't have to buy for awhile.
I refuse to worry at this point
and I'm still doing what I normally do, but remaining vigilant.

Hush. There's a difference between worry and concern.

I'm not worried, yet I have a whole thread about nCoV.

Sounds to me like you're the one who's worried.

nawty bits you are wasting too much valuable time PLEASE please prepare, you will wish you had not spent so much time here when you come down with it and wont be ale to forgive yourself dearhf

Thank you for your concern. Worst worst-case scenario, I'd never have to leave my property again. And I'm retired, and it's 15F below zero right now, so I have a lot of free time.

I'm currently prepping for family and friends/refugees. That's just a bonus.

I'll be ok. Thank you.

Singapore's curve is starting to look exponential.

I'm not fan of vaccines, but if they can animal test and human trial vaccines within 6 months, I might inject.

We don't know that's not info that's being released. And deaths in places like Europe and the US probably won't start for a few days yet. We will get more info after that. But, other people will die.
