I have a newborn at home. What are preparations I can do specifically for children this young? | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 78222738 United States 01/25/2020 10:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My wife and I both took off work through the end of March, so we can minimize contact with the outside world. We still have the grandparents problem- they love spending time with the baby but one works and the other travels a lot- lots of contact in the outside world. What should we do if he does catch this thing? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 20842745 United States 01/25/2020 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yep... First time parents. First child is protected at all cost. Second child not so much (The jitters are over). Third child is raised by the first child while the second child feels left out. Don't worry about what's going on in China. Live everyday at it fullest with your children. Wash your hand. Clean everything, boil your bottles. If the baby has a fever it may be baby teeth coming in or water getting in to the ears causing infection from bathing. Don't live in fear. Oh, one more thing! Congratulations to the both of you. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20842745 Probably the best advice. And you’re right- we probably have been going a little overboard with protecting the baby. Thanks- put me at ease a bit. Thank you ! |

First, this could very well be fake news, that possibility has to be exhausted. However, it's looking very real and very bad. You'll know in a week or two if China goes into complete shut down, with more major cities being locked down, then it's time to take action in my opinion. Right now, I suggest topping off your basic preps like masks and gloves. Get the N100 masks. Make sure you have small models for the kids. Also, you should have one complete face mask filter with a couple of disposable suits. These are still available on Amazon, but they are selling out. You should also have plenty of disposable germ killing wipes and spray disinfectant, I'd get at least a case of these. Even if the flu is a nothing, you can use this over the next year. Next, you should look at food and water. Don't assume the water and power will always be running. People who run those systems will get this flu as well and things might stop functioning. If you have a bug out location, it's time to make sure everything is topped off and ready to go. You might need to implement a policy of "no one in or out" at some point. People who come in from out side will need to be quarantined for it looks like three weeks, to be sure they don't have it. Assume you might have to be locked down for 3-6 months until this blows over. Anonymous Coward User ID: 20842745 United States 01/25/2020 10:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Awesome girl is right. The worst thing you can do is to artificially subsidize the human body during development stages. The amune system needs viruses to build its own antibodies. It's hard I know. Our baby caught the R.S.V. Vito back in the late 80's. Almost lost him. After he survived mother and I decided not to feed him artificial stimulants but to let his own body develop its own antibodies. He heathy and never had the flu and rarely has the common cold. |

Yes this is a newborn preemie and is only temporary. Of course just until this is over. |

Of course he can’t live in a bubble forever. But he’s a newborn preemie and I just think if he were to catch the flu right now that would not be good. It was very hard for us to conceive and couldn’t imagine losing him. Ugh. This is hard. |

Seeing reports that Beijing is restricting travel in or out starting tomorrow so the lockdowns are growing. Don’t see why China itself would implement these measures if it were overblown fake news msm bs. Beijing is a major city for sure. I’ve got adult sized N100 masks, replacement filters and disposable suits already. Will have to look into baby sized. Will stock up on sanitizing wipes for sure today. Wife and I have 6 months of food, water and propane for the generators. We live with well water too. We’re definitely a bug in family- 50 acres out in the middle of nowhere with well armed Christian neighbors. Just loaded up with 4K gallons of propane before Christmas. Should be enough to power the generators for months if needed. Thanks again! Will do some looking for baby sized protection. |

And not letting their immune system get confused and weakened by vaccines, specially not in this early age..! Breats milk has a lot of benefits, the most significantis building up the immune system. So look after your wife and nourish her well with healthy and livley stuff - fresh organically grown vegetables and bio- minerals and vitamins etc. Good luck! |

Yes this is a newborn preemie and is only temporary. Of course just until this is over. If he is being breast fed- then you are doing the absolute best you can. Keep momma healthy, wash your hands, use common sense- but don’t go overboard sterilizing your whole environment. I had a micro preemie, born at 23 weeks, came home 4.5 months later. NICU promoted breast milk for as long as possible and hand washing. Obviously don’t take your baby around sick people, but the breast milk is providing all of moms antibodies to your son. |

ANTI BACTERIAL WIPES FOR EVERYTHING and if you dont already wipe down the ENTIRE shopping cart before ANYONE touches it you should start! By 12 months they'll be trying to lick the handle----my daughter did that at 3 years and it wasnt 24 hours until she was projectile vomiting. 3 kids from 8 months to 7 years here! Id say 3 bad colds and 2 bad tummy bugs in the entire groups time. Start reading about P.A.N.D.A.S. tho, daddio, an infection like strep can lead to auto immune issues (that can be corrected but are alarming). |

Not long ago new babies were kept at home, there was none if this parading it out and about so strangers could fawn over it. Check your furnace filter, keep vacuum clean. Require that people wash there hands thoroughly before coming over. I’ve add a few drops of hibiclens to my liquid soap dispensers in the bathroom, and at kitchen sink for years. Only use natural soap. [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] Less stress in the home, eliminate loud noises, obnoxious TV, harsh lighting. Only filtered water. Make sure you have the one they sent him home from the hospital with. If you don't have it, see if you can get another directly from the hospital. If not, go to a medical supply place to get one. The ones at the drug store/walmart are better than nothing, but not much. The hospital ones will actually help alot with congestion. Also, a humidifier with the menthol stuff to go in it. If it were summer, you could also use plantain leaves in it. |

The networks are actually reporting a lot that has been breaking on GLP. |
