Sepsis mimics flu symptoms - Here's the life-saving sepsis protocol
Sepsis May Be Responsible for 20% of Deaths Worldwide

By Dr. Joseph Mercola

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition triggered by a systemic infection that causes your body to overreact and launch an excessive and highly damaging immune response. Unless promptly diagnosed and treated, it can rapidly progress to multiple-organ failure and death.

A number of studies have shown sepsis is becoming ever more prevalent, making it imperative to be on the lookout for its signs and symptoms whenever you're ill or in the hospital.

This includes cases of suspected influenza, as sepsis can mimic many of the signs and symptoms of the flu. In fact, sepsis is one of the leading causes for influenza deaths. Studies have also identified sepsis as a top cause of death in hospitals, and one of the primary causes of serious harm due to misdiagnosis.

...

If you or a loved one succumbs to sepsis, whether caused by influenza or some other infection, please remember that a protocol of IV vitamin C with hydrocortisone and thiamine (vitamin B1) can be lifesaving, so urge your doctor to use it. Chances are, they might not even be aware of it.

This sepsis treatment protocol was developed Dr. Paul Marik, a critical care doctor at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in East Virginia, and clinical use has proven it to be remarkably effective for the treatment of sepsis, reducing mortality nearly fivefold.

Marik's retrospective before-after clinical study21,22 showed that giving patients IV vitamin C with hydrocortisone and vitamin B1 for two days reduced mortality from 40% to 8.5%. Of the 50 patients treated, only four died, and all of them died from their underlying disease, not sepsis.

The Protocol

The precise protocol used was 200 mg of thiamine every 12 hours, 1,500 mg of ascorbic acid every six hours, and 50 mg of hydrocortisone every six hours.23 Importantly, the treatment has no side effects and is inexpensive, readily available and simple to administer, so you really have nothing to lose by trying it.

I did see Monkey Flower's thread. I'm not sure if this is helpful to her, but maybe someone can suggest the protocol. It's safe with no side effects.

Prayers sent for MF.

Acronyms to Memorize

The Sepsis Alliance recommends using the acronym TIME to remember some of the more common symptoms:18

T — Temperature higher or lower than normal?
I — Have you now or recently had any signs of an infection?
M — Are there any changes in mental status, such as confusion or excessive sleepiness?
E — Are you experiencing any extreme pain or illness; do you have a "feeling you may die?"

Another acronym you could use to memorize the signs and symptoms is SEPSIS, described in the video above:

S — Shivering (fever, cold)
E — Extreme pain
P — Pale, clammy skin
S — Shortness of breath
I — "I feel like I might die"
S — Sleepy (confused)

Re: Sepsis mimics flu symptoms - Here's the life-saving sepsis protocol
Sepsis kills more people than cancer around the world

A new study finds sepsis is associated with 1 in 5 deaths globally.

A new study finds that 1 in 5 deaths around the world is caused by sepsis, also known as blood poisoning, many more than previously estimated by medical experts.

The study, led by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Washington schools of medicine, was published Thursday in the journal the Lancet. It estimates that in 2017, there were 48.9 million cases of sepsis worldwide and 11 million deaths. That means nearly 20 percent of all deaths globally were sepsis-related. Previous studies have estimated that sepsis is partly the cause for 1 in 10 deaths globally.

But in the most recent and comprehensive study to date, researchers took a much closer look. They analyzed more than 109 million individual death records and trends from 1990 through 2017. Scientists used records of people who were hospitalized with sepsis and those who were not treated in a hospital. Earlier studies focused only on hospital records.

He's like a garlic fanatic. Me, not so much.

I had the regular flu for two weeks, sneezing and coughing up a storm.

Those super hot peppers too. He swears by those.

I fucking hate them.

Op my wife is a critical care nurse and takes care of the sick of the sickest for the last 30 years. She has seen more death than 99% of us will ever see. I showed her your post and she said that is so far from the truth. The number of patients she has seen with sepsis in 30 years you could count on one hand. When she walked away she said sepsis wouldn’t even make the top ten on the death list. The hospital has IV vitamin c and they haven’t had to use it yet because of lack of sepsis patients. Some doctors treat patients with vitamin c that have pneumonia, flu, and respiratory problems and they heal twice as quick as the doctors that don’t give it.

Thanks for that. I very much appreciate close to first-hand reports.

What is exactly far from the truth? The info is based on a Lancet study, but the study was worldwide so certainly there will be more cases of sepsis in developing countries... so that could alter the results and not be representative of hospital deaths in developed nations:

[link to www.thelancet.com (secure)]

Incidentally, the study did find the rate of sepsis is declining world-wide but the rate was still higher than expected.
