The "one child" program has become a victim of it's own success. You have a large aging population of retirees supported on the backs of a group of workers that is half as large. Plus, because of social/cultural bias, girl children are not highly valued meaning that many Chinese who had ability to get intrauterine testing and found the fetus was female, elected to terminate the pregnancy. Now you have a huge imbalance in the male vs female population as well. What a coincidence that the government that instituted the "1 child" program also built a virus research lab from which "escapes" a virus that reduces elderly and males with lessened potential to spread outside their borders.
