Ozone Sterilization for N95 Mask Re-use What say you?

Another alternative OP I am considering is UV-C light without ozone. These lights can sterilize rooms also on all direct surfaces. So you could just hang the N95 masks nearby while you sterilize a room for 15 to 20 minutes.

They have these UV lights with ozone that actually scrub rooms where the light does not shine like behind stuff but then you must deal with not entering the room and airing it out until the bad smell is all gone as ozone is harmful to your lungs. Which is hard to do in winter climates when your house is closed up to save on heating bills.

You can also buy these non ozone UV lights for your furnace and install it above your A/C coil inside your furnace.

I have been studying these possibilities. Just look on Amazon the room lights are under 80 buks and the bulbs last about 1 year , replacement bulbs under 20 buks.

The ones I am looking at will be in stock on Valentines day. I could leave direct links but then everyone would buy them and I would not be able to order the ones I want. LOL

I just got a UVC portable light, 5v recharge with its own built in battery. Runs for 15 minutes, waits a few seconds before it starts so you can clear the room.

Im going to also build a box to sterilize gloves, masks extra. Strange you had this Idea as I was thinking all day about it. I came down with getting a plastic IKEA container and UVC e27 light bulb and fittings.

I plan on throwing post and everything in there. Seal lid and run for a few minutes. Take box outside air after a few minutes. I think it may be better to have an outside room. The ozone has a distinct smell and THE UVC LIGHT AND OZONE IS NOT GOOD, AVOID AT ALL COSTS TO YOURSELF

I read a paper today, the UVC kills viuses, in 1 minute where sanitizer take a good few minutes.

BUT... I also read people with exposure to ozone have show too have lower sperm count!!!! and also read that Ozone makes rubber seals brittle and makes them crack!
The UVC should kill viruses alone, so maybe a vent to extract the ozone to outside of the box is a better idea? What you think?

I had to install a electric ventilator in the bathroom, this is where I plan to use it the most indoors, im in a apartment, If I was in a house, I would put it in a shed and sanitize everything there with a electric vent :(

I would like to know about sanitizing shopping with UVC and Ozone. Anyone know the effects of this?

UV lights and Floresent lights are going to do jack... nothing to anything.

Only UVC lights will work, the dont use glass, they use crystal quarts melted down into a tube.

THIS ALOWS the UVC to exiit the bulb. In nature lighting creates ozone its an intense beam of light.

You are correct, it must be special quartz UVC lamps at 254nm. Glass inhibits the transmission of UV.

You also need ballasts.

Be careful, UV is not something to play with at that wavelength.

I've been thinking about adding the UVC as a method for sanitation but haven't really gone that route yet. There's a few medical equipment sterilization units that I've seen which employ both UV and Ozone while disinfecting (But, they're fairly small and cost a couple of thousand each). I figured I could increase the volume with the disposable plastic storage box and the 10k mg per hour Ozonator, thus producing the same results but make it more affordable. I went with a clear box, so I don't want to install the UV light in there.

Additionally, as for sanitizing anything in public, I don't see how you'd be able to utilize UV without some decent shielding.

Safe practices while out in public are your best bet. (Hand washing, Clorox wipes, 70% alcohol dispenser for hands, etc... Don't touch your face Etc.)

I hear its like getting arc eyes, welders know the story well, it can damage your eyes and arc eyes is like millions of sand scratcing your eyes for days, DO NOT LOOK AT THE LIGHT! Its pretty. I seen some event dance or something the display has floresent lights on show, the guy put UVC bulbs becuase it was so nice and blue.

I have read a bit about the efficacy of OZONE regarding the killing of bacteria and viruses, so I went ahead and bout a 10,000MG/Hr Ozone generator and a nice sized clear plastic storage bin I intend to use as a sterilizing chamber. I've read many articles and it looks very promising.

So far it looks like the only issue I will have is perhaps over saturation of O3 on the elastic straps for the masks.

If this thing TRULY goes off the hook in the coming weeks, many may be forced to "re-use" their masks due to lack of supplies. Which is a total NO-NO when dealing with viruses and such.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I figured I would pass this info out to all of you and see if any of you have any other suggestions or see a problem with this.

I'll be operating the generator in none confined spaces (Outside, maybe the garage with ventilation if it's rainy) and plan to pipe ALL of the concentrated Ozone into the box, thus saturating the masks for something in the 30 minute range.
