Anonymous Coward User ID: 71124074 United Kingdom 02/09/2020 05:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have read a bit about the efficacy of OZONE regarding the killing of bacteria and viruses, so I went ahead and bout a 10,000MG/Hr Ozone generator and a nice sized clear plastic storage bin I intend to use as a sterilizing chamber. I've read many articles and it looks very promising. Quoting: Travis Bickle Here's one such article: [link to tuttnauer.com (secure)] So far it looks like the only issue I will have is perhaps over saturation of O3 on the elastic straps for the masks. If this thing TRULY goes off the hook in the coming weeks, many may be forced to "re-use" their masks due to lack of supplies. Which is a total NO-NO when dealing with viruses and such. Anyway, for what it's worth, I figured I would pass this info out to all of you and see if any of you have any other suggestions or see a problem with this. I'll be operating the generator in none confined spaces (Outside, maybe the garage with ventilation if it's rainy) and plan to pipe ALL of the concentrated Ozone into the box, thus saturating the masks for something in the 30 minute range. What do you think? (BTW, just about to get on the road for a 3hr trip so, I might not be seeing any posts until later this evening.) Stay safe everyone! Another alternative OP I am considering is UV-C light without ozone. These lights can sterilize rooms also on all direct surfaces. So you could just hang the N95 masks nearby while you sterilize a room for 15 to 20 minutes. They have these UV lights with ozone that actually scrub rooms where the light does not shine like behind stuff but then you must deal with not entering the room and airing it out until the bad smell is all gone as ozone is harmful to your lungs. Which is hard to do in winter climates when your house is closed up to save on heating bills. You can also buy these non ozone UV lights for your furnace and install it above your A/C coil inside your furnace. I have been studying these possibilities. Just look on Amazon the room lights are under 80 buks and the bulbs last about 1 year , replacement bulbs under 20 buks. The ones I am looking at will be in stock on Valentines day. I could leave direct links but then everyone would buy them and I would not be able to order the ones I want. LOL UV light has minimal to no penetration. Surface only. Yes, your hands are clean. No, the rag you wipe your face with is not. Ozone is relatively effective depending on penetration. Penetration. Penetration. Penetration. Was I clear? Penetration is required for sterilization. Then there is the difference between sterilized and sanitized. I've been accused of being a VPN antagonist. There is truth to that. Yes, I am on a VPN and yes I know more than 90% of you regarding virology. That being said, I'm done. Best of luck to all of you. Get your masks and do what it is you do. You still apparently haven't read the OP of this thread. It's about what to do when forced, because you've ran out of fresh masks, not whether you can save a buck and cut corners. It's advice for an emergency situation, which is never a bad thing to discuss. |

The concentration of the ozone in my box was intended for penetration. That's why I decided to build it. Also, I used a sealed vent hose to carry the Ozone from the machine, into the box. This is so I can occasionally lift and shake around the contents of the box as needed for maximum coverage to all ares of the masks. (Or whatever I decide to put in there) One of these days... Runs for 15 minutes, waits a few seconds before it starts so you can clear the room. Can put it anywhere Im going to also build a box to sterilize gloves, masks extra. Strange you had this Idea as I was thinking all day about it. I came down with getting a plastic IKEA container and UVC e27 light bulb and fittings. I plan on throwing post and everything in there. Seal lid and run for a few minutes. Take box outside air after a few minutes. I think it may be better to have an outside room. The ozone has a distinct smell and THE UVC LIGHT AND OZONE IS NOT GOOD, AVOID AT ALL COSTS TO YOURSELF I read a paper today, the UVC kills viuses, in 1 minute where sanitizer take a good few minutes. BUT... I also read people with exposure to ozone have show too have lower sperm count!!!! and also read that Ozone makes rubber seals brittle and makes them crack! The UVC should kill viruses alone, so maybe a vent to extract the ozone to outside of the box is a better idea? What you think? I had to install a electric ventilator in the bathroom, this is where I plan to use it the most indoors, im in a apartment, If I was in a house, I would put it in a shed and sanitize everything there with a electric vent :( I would like to know about sanitizing shopping with UVC and Ozone. Anyone know the effects of this? I've been thinking about adding the UVC as a method for sanitation but haven't really gone that route yet. There's a few medical equipment sterilization units that I've seen which employ both UV and Ozone while disinfecting (But, they're fairly small and cost a couple of thousand each). I figured I could increase the volume with the disposable plastic storage box and the 10k mg per hour Ozonator, thus producing the same results but make it more affordable. I went with a clear box, so I don't want to install the UV light in there. Additionally, as for sanitizing anything in public, I don't see how you'd be able to utilize UV without some decent shielding. Safe practices while out in public are your best bet. (Hand washing, Clorox wipes, 70% alcohol dispenser for hands, etc... Don't touch your face Etc.) I got this one [link to www.aliexpress.com (secure)] I am getting the bulb next. This portable one is small but it does generate ALLOT of ozone. They all do, any UVC light automaticly makes ozone. You dont need some special unit. I have seen guys on you tube get a E27 bulb and make a magic wand. To kill eveything in their home labs, hell I think there is some hoover what has it built in the sucking part. Also they use them in fish tanks to clean the water,UVC filters. Dont worry, I dont plan to remove my gloves or use the portable unit till I get home. :D Im keen on testing, just waiting on the post to deliver the next bulb. |

(Certain rooms I might seal off and UVC and sterilize them completely followed by extracting the air after 15min.) or detol and bleach mix? but again... hmmmm bleach.. how long could this all last. Plus the ozone gas destroys rubber and other similar materials. dos your expensive TV or other items have such materials in them? Yes. Wanna take a risk on eventually degrading these parts?
