The idea of a zombie can be taken different ways. Of course there is the movie zombies that run and eat brains to stay alive but there are also living zombies in voodoo culture. A zombie doesn’t have to be a blood thirsty monster to be real. There could easily be a zombie like trance people are in before death that these people are seeing and it’s the only way they can describe it.
