I believe this could be how day and night are separated. The dome is the key. Despite everyone on the surface having a direct line of sight to the light source, half are still in the dark due to the spherical nature and way the dome refracts the light. This is why many ancient cultures refer to the dark sun, aka the sun you can’t see, which is the true source of the energy and light. The sun you see in the sky is an apparent sun.
