How could they fuck up like this? Quoting: Pilgrim001 I suspect when Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas (McD) and McD's management took over. Didn't help when Boeing transferred its headquarters to Chicago either while the assembly factories stayed in Washington State. McD being the manufacturer of the DC-10 is another example of what went wrong. McD was in competition with the Lockheed Martin L-1011 - and the DC-10 rear cargo had a design flaw in its locking system. Many inflight emergencies and crashes later, it was shelved. Now mainly used for cargo operations. Hope this helps. |

But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Marcus Tullius Cicero |

Thats far from the whole story...when that lock failed it caused a rapid decompression and since there were no "blow out" panels between cargo compartments the cabin floor collapsed fouling control cables to the tail. Locheed announced the L1011 twin aisle tri-jet and MacAir did not even have a thought about building one but flew theirs first...hmmmm. And no the DC10 was not shelved, after a lengthy public relations campaign after 191 it returned to service with all of the worlds major airlines and continued to fly out its useful life. Contrary to what anyone might think, there is One Level of Safety and if an aircraft is not serviceable for passenger service it would not be airworthy for freight services either. Andrzej |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77256626 You sure know your shit, don't you? If the former 737 was safe and certified, wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and safer to just take the big engines off the extended nacelles and put the old or smaller engine back under the wing? ie return it to it's older 737 configuration. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

"Why would anyone, after listening to this completely credible interview, defend Boeing’s actions?" He's a little late to the party...EVERYTHING he talks about we already knew and have discussed here, many times. I don't remember talking about the trim problems. Oh yeah, the trim problems are what the problem has been all along with this fatally flawed designed plane. The MCAS software was supposed to correct them. The problem they knew about from the very beginning was their trying to stick the larger and more efficient Rolls Royce engines on a wing that was too low to the ground for clearance. Their stupid solution? Mount them higher and further forward on the wing....problem solves....whoopie! Except the plane couldn't be safely flown because of the instability this CHEAP fix caused making it want to pitch up. Boeings cheap solution? The MCAS but even here, they continued being cheap, cheap, cheap....not even telling pilots MCAS was on the damn plane. As I have said before, as far as I'm concerned several Boeing executives belong in PRISON for the decisions made in this plane..they killed people trying to be cheap! Here's and old transcript from Rush Limbaugh back in March 2019 talking about this crime; [link to www.rushlimbaugh.com (secure)] Last Edited by FeedYourHead on 02/13/2020 12:16 PM Ask Alice when she's 10ft tall This is a battle for the future of civilization.
