I did not expect this to grow as such.

I hope some of you watched the CDC briefing as thats as close to verification of what I said before it aired withiut risking myself.

Regarding treatments, my colleagues and I are looking at fda approved antivirals, experimental antivirals and past effective treatments on prominent viral outbreaks. If it hasnt been tested or proven, unfortunately we are not looking at it at this time in this specific facility.

Working with the government requires you to follow their rules unfortunately, and to admit a non-approved therapy has effects, is not in their interest.

Speaking on fever. Yes, typically a fever is actually beneficial and should be allowed as it instigates your immune system.

But with 19ncov, it may be aiding in causing a cytokine storm, this is unproven without live data, but is a theory we are bouncing around between colleagues.

Again, this is 100% unproven without further testing, just a hypothesis from a fellow here.

Remdesivir which is made by Gilead is currently under clinical trials in China, but there has not been sufficient evidence that it will be effective in the treatment. Instead it has shown to improve the standard of care in critically ill patients, but not provide treatment.

AbbVie also has a version of remdesivir called Aluvia which is being explored as an option to treatment, but the product is not readily available for supportive treatment options.

Another treatment option that has shown promise, and is being considered is taking a dose of lopinavir and ritonavir and then nebulizing alpha-interferon BID.

On another note, chloroquine (a long used malaria treatment) has shown to have good inhibitory effects on 19ncov at the cellular level.

Unfortunately, the drug requires high kidney functioning for drug clearance as it has a small therapeutic index, it is not safe in usage for anyone over 60 YO, and in larger doses produces many adverse effects (AEs). Many critically ill patients already have reduced kidney clearance, so the toxicity levels need to be monitored more carefully to ensure that AEs such as cardiac arrest, or sudden respiratory arrest do not occur, which make it a harder drug to consider even though it shows promise.
