I haven't been able to follow news lately, due to non-stop work for me for the last few weeks. So, this might be a dumb question and may have already been asked, so sorry in advance...

If you're on the treatment team, could you tell me whether non-pharma treatments are attempted? Like herbs, baking soda, spicy food, elderberries and on and on? You know; hillbilly treatments, old wives tales, new-agey stuff, old remedies, and whatever a total ati-pharma person might try?

If so, does anything seem to help at all?
If not, why not?
 Quoting: FivelCubed

Sorry to bother, but I'm really interested in an answer to this question. If 001 can't answer, can one of you who might have seen 001's answer to a similar question?

You are a non-native english speaker.
Are you chinese?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75199324

I guessed this too since I work with many who are well-educated technical non-native English speakers and detected similarities in word choices and phrasing, undoubtedly what 001 calls "sentence structure". It's difficult for a native English speaker to mimic. BTW 001's English skills are VERY GOOD and no doubt much better than a Google translate could produce from his native tongue. He's lived in an English speaking country for many years I believe.

001, if you read this, first, a huge thank you for sticking your neck out to come here and divulge this information. I am finding it fascinating and as a follower of medical info for a life now in it's 6th decade it fits very closely with other info I've studied.

One question... I understand you in saying it would make a lousy bio-weapon because it mutates too fast, and there's no way for a country who uses it to vaccinate their own population against it.

But if, as you say, it could have been part of a program to create a universal coronavirus vaccine.... then why insert gene sequences that inhibit immune response similar to HIV? I can't envision it serving any useful purpose to do that, in pursuit of a universal coronavirus vaccine. An explanation of how that factors in would be appreciated.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76258609

I think 001's reasoning is very sound if one thinks of a targeted bioweapon. But if there is a trojan horse, persay, in the virus that is unlikely to be shed by mutation, then a group could release an otherwise unstable virus to attack humanity in general. 500,000,000 out of 8,000,000,000 is only 6.25%. By that standard, decimating the world is just a start. Quite the cataclysm.

If we approach such a possibility from the perspective of someone that was trying to make it happen . . . is there any other route that would seem effective yet more reliable?

Do you have a link about Vitamin D3 and cytokine storm?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66662033

here you go...

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov (secure)]

here is a snippet from the study

"Deaths during the 1918–1919 influenza pandemic have been linked to both the influenza virus and secondary bacterial lung infections. Case fatality rates and percentage of influenza cases complicated by pneumonia were available from survey data for twelve United States locations in the 1918–1919 pandemic. This study analyzes case fatality rates and cases complicated by pneumonia with respect to estimated summertime and wintertime solar ultraviolet-B (UVB) doses as indicators of population mean vitamin D status. Substantial correlations were found for associations of July UVB dose with case fatality rates (r = −0.72, p = 0.009) and rates of pneumonia as a complication of influenza (r = −0.77, p = 0.005). Similar results were found for wintertime UVB. Vitamin D upregulates production of human cathelicidin, LL-37, which has both antimicrobial and antiendotoxin activities. Vitamin D also reduces the production of proinflammatory cytokines, which could also explain some of the benefit of vitamin D since H1N1 infection gives rise to a cytokine storm. The potential role of vitamin D status in reducing secondary bacterial infections and loss of life in pandemic influence requires further evaluation.
 Quoting: mr dull socks

What about this:?

SARS and the new coronavirus target the same cellular lock to infect cells (ACE2)

[link to www.sciencenews.org (secure)]

The author of this VitaminDWiki says:

Chinese Coronaviruses (Wuhan and SARS) attach to cells via ACE2, which is associated with Vitamin D,

It is not clear to me if the association is positive or negative, Will increasing Vitamin D increase or decrease Coronavirus

[link to vitamindwiki.com (secure)]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66662033

The ACE2 has nothing the do with vitamin D the VDR receptor is the Vitamin D receptor. not sure why this person is saying this. It is possible they are saying this because Vit D controls gene expression therefore it would control the expression of ACE2, but Vit D controls the expression of virtually everything so not sure how/why the author thinks this is relevant.

Regardless this has nothing to do with a cytokine storm. if the VDR receptor binds wit vit D it will not release inflammatory cytokines. so the more D the better as it pertains to cytokine storm.
 Quoting: mr dull socks

What about the damage the Wuhan virus is doing to the body and people in China showing now symptoms asymptomatic falling over and dying coz the virus is attacking the heart, brain, oprgans, cns?

What will Vitamin D do for the incubation period?

I am on a government oversight committee that meets at the CDC several times each year. During the Ebola Crises in 2014 I was given a personal tour of the Emergency Operations Center and got to meet with the epidemiologists who were in the field in Africa.

The folks I usually work with at the CDC have all been detailed to the Emergency Operations Center to work on the coronavirus response.

What you are being told publicly is not what is being discussed privately, and the private discussions are much worse than you can imagine.

Gloves go with clothing into a bag, into your drier at highest heat level.

As is said discernment is very important.

I PERSONALLY would never ever do this.

The reason

Nearly all tumble driers especially in Europe, do not get a high enough Temprature, 60 C that the OP stated was needed for the required time, environmental laws and such like, in some of his other information. And if they do it takes quite a while before that happens. They also vent into the space they are in, not all are vented to the outside, Often in Kitchens or right next to one.

You would have to also be ultra carefull of the filters that the Tumble Driers use before the air is discharged when next changing, cleaning them.

The result, just based on what the OP suggested, and has stated the "LAB" has found for temprature and period required to kill this Virus so its "Undetectable" youve gone to all this trouble, then the tumble drier turn it on, and are letting it actually fan and ventilate it in the room.
Electronically pumping and circulting it about until it gets up to heat, a bit like a the opposite of what is in most High School Chemistry Labs the "Extractor Hood" where you do the mixing of so the fumes are removed, this would do the opposite and circulate them back to you.

The virus will be out of the tumble drier circulted within the air on every surface, before the heat within and on the clothes is reached and sustained for long enough.

Even if the Temperature was reached instantly, still before the required time stated to kill it by the OP, during that time it will be pumped into the air of the house, and probably mixed and on Cutlery, fridge handles, food, fruit etc.

Hey the clothes might have no Virus on them afterwards, dont bite into that apple, or use plates or cutlery , left to dry or drain next to the sink though.

Definately dont use the Kitchen Towel or napkins to wipe your face or your childs!

Kind Regards.

Not sure, but -001, it certainly feels like you’re avoiding my question, one in which you should have an answer, if not a very well-informed opinion. So how about it, please. I think it’s a critical piece to this and your silence on it is suspect.

Thank you
 Quoting: Larphillips

What was your question please?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76862206

Help me understand how you know that this is true. According to the CDC website (and yes...I would expect public data and government data are probably radically different) they’ve ONLY tested 337 people...and of that number, 100 are still pending results. That testing sample, considering the circumstances, just seems to be too low to be able to determine much of anything.

Note, this is not an attack on you, but every time that I hear someone say “the risk is currently low” anyone willing to take that next step and review the CDC data will come to the same conclusion that I have. Right now, that public perception is a government engaged publicly in willful ignorance. Yes, I know that for weeks, the CDC excuse has been issues regarding the bottleneck and the backlog, but it’s worn thin.

Put me at ease, if you can.
 Quoting: Larphillips

Sorry Lars, I was busy.

As I stated, the CDC is part of the government, who at this timeis merely performing damage control and attempting to buy time for advances to be made with this virus.

They are neither lying nor telling the full picture.

I cannot put you at ease because your feeling is 80-90% true. Willful ignorance being the incorrect 10%, but technically by rights, the risk is currently low.

The virus is a big risk, but currently, we are able to place criticals in care and treat mild cases.

They are not lying by saying this to be frank, they are just misleading.

And to truly confirm tests is a multi stage process, not a single test confirmation, I would assume "pending" means awaiting secondary or third stage verification.

They must be positive on confirmations at this time as quarantining is by all rights, imprisonment.

Unless new directives are issued, this is illegal without proper reasoning at this moment.

A new drier currently is capable of reaching temps above 170f.

Please do not provide incorrect info my friend.

Everything else is correct, except the fact driers vent to the outside, not inside if installed correctly. If I am not mistaken that is? I am not certified in any hvac or anything related.

Speaking on SARS and NCOV being related thru ACE2 receptor as entry/attach to host.

Use this simple example

ACE2 was SARS only point. It took 13 months to accomplish what it did.

NCOV uses ACE2 and possibly more clearly, as we have seen due to surpassing sars infected count in the first 2 reported weeks. Imagine where we will be in 13 months total elapsed time.

We need to think broader and outside the box, instead of looking to the past for clues to a virus that is novel in nature.

Some people vent driers inside because it is easier, or to humidify homes in winter. My mother in law’s drier vents inside in the basement.

Our drier vents outside, but has a switch to vent inside.

It is obvious venting the virus inside is a problem.

Some washing machines have a sanitizing setting that gets extra hot.

Was wondering about a dry heat sauna...breathing in the hot air...

I AM NOT IN ANY WAY IN WHAT I STATED PROVIDING INCORRECT DATA

My post is based on what you said as an "expert" was the time needed at a certain temprature to kill this virus.

What I Have said is correct, based on YOUR previous "Expert" information and my basic Undergratuate some Lab work, though definately not at your level of "Expertise", and experience within the Medical field, health care.

Everything I stated in my post if the information you provided previously is correct, that to follow your instructions and based on your data, using a tumble drier to do this will spread the virus, it really is not rocket science.

Even if a new tumble drier (does everyone reading this have one?) reaches that you stated a time of 30 minutes at 60C in the first minutes of operation the virus would be circulated into the area if not vented.

If vented to the outside of the house people walking past and also probably to the Back door handle of the house.

Doing what you said would if the virus was on their clothes and they followed all the protocols you mentioned mean they where very likely to get infected and infect their entire house.

People are dying from this.

BTW you are NOT my freind.

1. There is a hantavirus vaccine in Wuhan, due to hantavirus there. Could this be related to coronavirus susceptibility?

2. There is a problem with treatment-resistant TB in Wuhan, especially in the elderly. Is this a factor?

3. There are malnourished people, especially the elderly, living in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions in Wuhan. These conditions probably contribute to TB. Are certain populations in the West at greater risk if they live in such conditions, i.e. First Nations?

4. If lymphocytes are reduced by this coronavirus, would chronic lymphocytic leukemia (too many lymphocytes) actually have an ironic protective factor, rather than compromising the immune system?
