Signs that Turkey has activated the radars of its Russian-made S-400 anti-aircraft systems to detect US-made Greek F-16s upon their return from Eunomia on 27 August off the coast of Cyprus appear to have triggered an alarm in Washington. The situation is in the Eastern Mediterranean and reportedly triggered a visit by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Cyprus on September 12 and to Greece on September 27-29. The visits highlight that Ankara's purchase of the S-400 is annoying to Washington, which has threatened to impose sanctions if the Russian system is activated.
