In 1992, Metropolitan Jerome of Thebes and Livadia (now Archbishop of the Church of Greece) asked the Roman Catholic Church "for a significant fragment of the relics of St. Luke to be worshiped where the tomb of the holy evangelist is located and where it is venerated today." . On this occasion, a scientific research of the relics from Padua showed that they are the remains of a man of Syrian origin, who died somewhere between 130 and 400 AD. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Padua gave Metropolitan Jerome the rib near the heart of the relics of St. Luke to be preserved and revered at the tomb of the saint at Thebes in Thebes, Greece. [6]

The tomb of St. Luke is a miracle worker to this day. On December 22, 1997, at 1.30 pm, myrrh began to flow from the marble of St. Luke's tomb.
