I believe Clark AFB was decommissioned because of volcanic activity. Absolutely correct there are NO US military Bases presently in the Philippines. Terminating a Visiting Forces Agreement means absolutely nothing right now except now China can annex the Philippines at their leisure. Uhhhh.... we have thousands of troops out there year around. Occasionally one of them does something stupid and the Filipino press goes ape shit hate against America. But it won’t mean much to us. Fuck them. Their military will suffer from a lower level of training and readiness. China started running out of money over a year ago. They will now implode and won’t do shit for the Philippines. |

I had family interned at Santo Tomas during WWII. A very close family member ran intel to the resistance. Another family member was shot by a Japanese sniper and carried fragments of the bullet in her thigh for the rest of her days. There's a camp there still named after a member of my family. So, I've got some seriously mixed feelings... Too much history is repeating itself right now but the P.I. needs to do what the P.I. needs to do. Joint Special Operations Task Force - Philippines (JSOTF-P) is headquartered in Zamboanga. JSOTF-P basically operates a US base that is located inside a Philippine military base. It has it's own facilities and barracks enclosed in a fenced area and Filipino's must have permission to enter these facilities. There are also several Cooperative Security Locations (CSLs) that are owned, maintained, and occupied by US military personnel scattered throughout the region. |
