I've had to break into several houses as I work in animal rescue, even a meth lap to rescue a badly injured mama cat and her 6 kittens. I have been the lead rescue 4 times in the past 3 years when we get a call from a neighbor, that tells us that their neighbor moved out several weeks ago but there are still animals left in the house. One of these rescues there was a very large black guy watching as I was breaking down the door, one of the (very naive) collage volunteers that was with me that day, said he was watching me. My first thought was I should walk across the street and tell him what I was doing, I introduce myself you told him what I was doing there and he said something I will never forget. "When lives matter, locks do not"! I'll never forget that! I never think twice when animal lives are in jeopardy, I do whatever needs to be done to save them!
