I would suggest getting a large thing of chewable kids vitamins. Other than that, get something that will filter water, a large quantity of TP. Something that many wouldn't think of is a lot of garbage bags. In a city if you lose the ability to use running water you will need something to do your business in. Cheap and available in large quantity is a good choice. Oh and if things start to go bad, do go visit your family. make sure to quarantine yourself when you get there to avoid infecting your family. Anonymous Coward User ID: 54429704 United States 02/13/2020 03:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My mom just told me they are on a well... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78265046 Does that mean unlimited water?? Yes. I am too. We're good unless the power goes off. Yes and no. You should try to have three sources of clean water. Even with a well, keep many bottles of water available. Don't buy it. If someone drinks alcohol(spirits) or soda, then keep the large bottles. Otherwise, just get a lot from a bar or recycling center for free. Wash and sterilize - then fill with well water. Make a bailing bucket with a one-way valve for your well. Lots of plans are on the net. That way, you can always get some water even without power. If you were in the USA, I'd invite you and your cats to my place. I need one other person that's compatible and trustworthy to function best here. I'm about as prepped as I can get working alone. Otherwise, go to your parents, set up for isolation, keep the best internet connection you can, and trust that you can survive. I'd even consider doing some business on the net if you have free time. I'm sure you can sell stuff your parents don't want, or find other ways to create value for sale. Good luck. |

I would strongly recommend buying some fish antibiotics: [link to fishmoxfishflex.com (secure)] These are exactly like human antibiotics, manufactured by Thomas Labs, a pharmaceutical grade lab. We have stocked up on the Amoxicillin, Cipro and Penicillin. We have actually taken these ourselves, and can attest to their effectiveness - AND we have not grown gills yet. All joking aside, they work and would be very valuable if the SHTF. We also just increased our prepper supplies a tad with parboiled rice/minute rice, dry and canned beans, SPAM - all flavors, Vienna Sausages, Canned Beef Tamales, Soups, Crackers, powdered milk, eggs and butter, teas, coffee (instant and ground) Tang, canned raviolis, mac and cheese, chicken, evaporated milk, packaged Jiffy corn muffin mix, Krusteaz bread mix, instant mashed potatoes, instant and regular oatmeal, canned fruit. We also have emergency food that you add water to. Bottled water is a must, Lifestraws personal water filters, water purification tabs or drops, Vitamins, Allergy meds, Aspirin, Motrin, Alka seltzer, Nauzene (for nausea), pepto bismol, Duct Tape and plastic sheeting, large plastic leaf bags, we have been saving plastic walmart bags as well, all kinds of toiletries, bandaids, feminine hygiene items, single butane burner with fuel, lighters and matches, mosquito net to hang over the bed, bug spray, and anything else you can think of. There are several prepper sites that you can go to to also help prepare. Most importantly...it is not too late to gather items. Just remain calm, gather supplies and pray we all never need to use them in an emergency situation. :) |

You'd be surprised how much cheaper per ounce it is when you buy those giant bags compared to normal sized bags. If nothing happens, you can always divide up the bag into smaller plastic bags later. |

That you can go to your parents is a huge advantage but when do you go? Don't wait until the panic sets in...it will be too late. Of course you want to stock up on the staples. PLENTY of water, canned goods and a MECHANICAL can opener. Any nutritional bars, home medications especially those designed to combat the flu, etc. We can get specific if you need the info. If they still have it available even Walmart has survival food available today...Amazon too. Flashlights, batteries, weather or ham radio options are good idea if things get serious.... After the cats done running amuck, and dangling from the ceiling fan, it'll be lights out in kitty town. It's so, so much easier to transport a sleeping cat than a stressed out, razor toed, flying fluff factory. You cannot conquer a free man. The most you can do, is kill him. |

One of the best preps is to keep your wits about you and to be situationally aware. Best advice on this site! Since you’ve been here for years now then you already know how many times “the world as we know it has ended”. You really seem to have a good head on your shoulders and are taking proactive steps now so as to not be caught up in panic later. When others are scurrying around trying to make sense of things you have a plan and a place to go. And realistically you have already been trained to rely on the resources at hand and your wits so as to make it this far in life. Your parents should be proud of you. |

Face facts, chinese(some infected, some not) have been travelling to all parts of the world before the lock down occured. The genie is out of the bottle at this point in my opinion and by the stealth nature that this virus infects spells doom for(tens, hundreds, even thousands) of millions worldwide. |

User ID: 78324119 United States 02/13/2020 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | interesting thread, thanks for all the responses. I am not taking the pandemic situation very seriously but all the same before it even hit the news I had stocked up on all the things I use for medicine when I get a chest cold, homeopathic cough syrup, herbal cough syrup, all kinds of tea and herb tea, so much honey. I have lots of herbs and spices that I buy in bulk, and I made some pantry runs for canned goods when I had a ride to the store. Got extra coconut oil, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and some frozen vegetables, got canned salmon, canned olives, canned tomatoes. After I stocked up on the medicinal stuff like cough syrup, olive leaf extract, echinacea, etc. then I did a big vitamin stock up because of a big sale. Did all that in December and early January. Like I said I'm not taking it too seriously (honestly I felt like I already had the damn thing! sick for a month) but if it is actually a "thing" I am probably not in the best area, too close to Vancouver BC. |
