Sajid Javid, the first Muslim Chancellor, was forced to resign yesterday. He got too big for his boots, made a power grab, entered into a pissing contest with Boris Johnson, and lost:

The Rochdale-born son of Pakistani immigrants had already riled Team Johnson by putting the Prime Minister on the spot about Islamophobia during last June’s Tory leadership campaign. Javid’s preferred candidate to become Bank of England Governor, Dame Minouche Shafik, was overruled by Downing Street who instead installed Andrew Bailey. Javid was said to be fuming. Shafique served on a number of boards: Middle East Advisory Group to the IMF, Economic Research Forum for the Arab World, Iran and Turkey. She is also active in Minority Ethnic Talent Ass. which supports under-represented groups to advance to senior positions in the civil service..."
