Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78484487 Mars is a rock twice the diameter of the moon, and like the moon, has NO ATMOSPHERE! It is UNINHABITABLE. It has absolutely NOTHING that we need. We have all the dirt we can use. BUT... A fool and his money are soon parted. Just don't make the rest of us pay for a "bridge to nowhere". You would have thought Columbus a fool then. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77125760 People, wake up, we never even went to the Moon. Show me a video, or photo, of the entire planet earth that is NOT CBI, or an artist rendition of what the planet is thought to look like. Please, please stop with this silliness. |

We were too much of a threat. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72793810 Probably our best moment was collaborating with the French on Concorde. French technology has been hugely impressive and successful with the Mirage and Rafale lines. More Anglo / Brit collaborations such as the Jaguar, would have taken over the world but the French took the baton and did very very well for themselves. Now Britain only makes wings for Airbus and a share of the Typhoon. We can't even build our own platform to replace the Nimrod. The VC-10 and the Electric Lightning were great. True winners in their time. Among others. I came. I saw. I Concorde. For once you have tasted Concorde you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. This is a given. With today's speeds there is no certainty that humans doing the journey will make it to Mars alive. Also it will be a no-return trip so there is no need that they pay the people selected for the mission. I propose that Elon Musk go on the first of his Ships to Mars. I came. I saw. I Concorde. Quoting: BRIEF Perpetual momentum will continue to accelerate until light speed, but is thought of beeing an interstellar engine concept because of the slow acceleration and deceleration. Deaccelleraration also needs fuel and time. |

Quoting: BRIEF Ion engines aren’t powerful enough to get into orbit, you need a rocket for that. Also, they require a TREMENDOUS amount of electricity to move a massive ship, hence why they are mainly used to adjust the orbital parameters of small satellites and shuttles, rather than as main thrusters. |

With current technology (propulsion, carriers, number of critical events to and from, Mars infrastructure, etc.), the risk of death is very high. Creatures of earth are way to difficult to keep alive in space flight, particularly at great distances beyond earth atmosphere. Solution: Design "beings" (Hubots - AI-controlled machines with maybe some human element) that will thrive and even replicate in the target environment |

Solution: Design "beings" (Hubots - AI-controlled machines with maybe some human element) that will thrive and even replicate in the target environment I am also part of those who think that with the current technology there is no chance humans will survive a trip to Mars. A trip back from Mars is something I would not even think of being possible. Why send humans when A.I.s and "Hubots" as you call them can do roughly the same as humans. Also you will not have to worry about feeding them human food and all the necessities that humans need. Why make it complicated when you can make it simple. I came. I saw. I Concorde. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14876315 They try hard though. European cars in general have loose tolerances, whereas American and Japanese cars have tight tolerances. It is a difference in philosphy - one side is if it is precision built, it won't eat oil. The other side is that if you build it sloppy to begin with and design in ways to contain the oil despite the sloppiness, it can wear right the hell out and still not leak too bad. |
