Could lysine supplements help prevent and treat the coronavirus illness, to some extent?
Read that it works well against some viruses. At least controls and lessens the severity.

I know several people who suggested lysine supplementation during flu season help prevent the flu.

This site deals with lysine for herpes, but there is a lot of relevant information that applies to building up the immune system to prevent or inhibit the virus.

[link to hsvblog.net (secure)]

"An appropriate diet high in lysine and low in arginine accompanied with specific vitamin supplements may be beneficial for those suffering from viral diseases, in particular the herpes virus.

Current research has shown that the amino acid, arginine, can provoke herpes and bring on an outbreak. Arginine is a form of protein known as an amino acid. This distinct amino acid is the building blocks of the herpes virus and is actually one of its direct food sources. When arginine levels are high in the body, the virus has the perfect conditions and everything it needs to be fully active in the body. This is sometimes manifested as an outbreak becoming triggered; as well as a long duration and ongoing activity of an outbreak.

It has been found that the amino acid Lysine, retards the herpes virus growth, so you should include in your diet foods high in Lysine and decrease the foods high in Arginine (an amino acid that supports the herpes virus). A very effective way of offsetting the arginine in your diet and restricting the virus strength is through the supplementation of a high dose, quality lysine. The benefit of this product is that it is a combination of lysine with bioflavanoids and zinc; which together are proven to have an extremely greater effect than that of just lysine alone.
...

Foods that should definitely be avoided for Herpes prevention:

processed foods
sugar
coffee
chocolate
cola and soda drinks
animal products
alcohol

All the above foods and beverages put stress on the immune system and should be reduced considerably if not completely eliminated from one’s diet. This is important to apply at all times but more crucially during active outbreaks.

Highly acidic foods can aggravate an active outbreak as well as cause an acid state to develop within our body, which can lead to a compromised immune system and poor health conditions.

These are foods such as:

meat
grains
most dairy
processed foods
sugar
soda drinks
citrus fruits
tomatoes
foods high in refined sodium
alcohol and other drugs

Re: Could lysine supplements help prevent and treat the coronavirus illness, to some extent?
I think L-Lysine can be very helpful against viruses,
It is for them, the same as L-arginine.
When they use L-Lysine, they cannot build anymore.
So taking in extra of it should support the virus to stop.

I tried it myself against EBV & I think it helped a lot.

BUT: Corona/Covid is NOT the problem! This is just the flu. It was blamed for the real thing (scapegoat):
the biological weapon causing people to die within 5 days with lots of pain (bleeding, dropping dead...).
The ONLY symptoms before: change in Psyche (what it was constructed for HONG KONG) and then after 10 days or so the deadly part.

You do not have to buy things for protection. There is none.

Lysine works best for herpes. So cold sores, shingles, and the respiratory herpes in cats, which is their version of the common cold.

I stand corrected, I have not looked it up in years, rice used to be listed as a good source. Thank you. I am a firm believer in the miracle workings of L lysine.

( I did a search not long ago on foods that help a urinary infection, UTI. Half the sites said the same foods were bad as the other half said were good) So much conflicting info out there. I have a lot of herb books, they all conflict each other too. Same with most things I research, conflicting opposing information.

Amazing stuff! So is L-Theanine! It’s the isolated amino acid from green tea. It not only has amazing non addictive calming effects but is purportedly highly effective in preventing and fighting viruses. We take it daily as do the dogs. It’s the main ingredient in doggy many Valiums. My buddy’s lab had lived a year longer than the vet said just from L-Theanine. Do some research it’s amazing.

I think they just got exposed to the strongest strain first. So many people in such close proximity. I do not think any of us are safe. Let's just hope it becomes less severe strains with each transmission. Some say there was already a vaccine, before the outbreak.

Almonds should be on the top of the list for foods to avoid for herpes. Mega high in Arginine great for lowering blood pressured as I eat them forbut if you have herpes you can't eat them.

What Lysine does it inhibits the uptake and availability of Arginine.
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

If the more I know, the more I know I don’t know, then do I truly know what I know because I know I don’t?
