Empathy for your food is a luxury. I do agree with your general sentiment, but just 100 years ago, we all treated our food the exact same way the Chinese do. Let's not moralize too much, because we would become like that again right quick if the situation demanded.

This is true among all cultures and it might surprise you to know the beef and pork you eat endures extreme suffering and anxiety before it is butchered, intentionally.

WHen animals are herded into a stun gate at a meat packing plant , they are aware they are about to die and are terrified for hours. Animals are poked with sharp prods and high voltage cattle prods to get them to advance in the gates, they know where they are going. Ask anyone who has worked in one of those hellish places if the animals are in mortal fear.

You are wrong. In the past, there may have been some people who payed no regard to the suffering of the animal as they killed it, but even for those people, their goal was to simply kill the animal for food. The goal of many Chinese is not just to kill the animal for food - it is specifically to cause suffering because they think that suffering makes the food tastier. We do not go out of our way - even sacrificing efficiency - just to maximize the suffering of animals.

Again, even for those places, the goal is efficiency. They don't poke them just to cause suffering. They poke them to get them to move on to the slaughter. The goal of many Chinese is specifically to cause suffering, not efficiency! There is a difference! So, while such places may be terrible, they are still a step up from Chinese torture meat.

Well I don't know if that's true. It's common knowledge that adrenaline will make meat taste bitter and the texture tough. But I'm always open to having my mind changed with evidence.

HORSESHIT. The only reason your cat pays any attention to you is because you are a source of food. If you died it would eat you, possibly beginner before you were fully dead. This has happened to numerous cat lady types...A dog would NEVER do that that.

Only if it is not butchered properly. The blood must be removed quickly and thoroughly, while the animal is still alive and upside down, preferably as terrified and excited as possible. The real reason it makes the meat better is because lactic acid builds up rapidly when they are stressed and frightened.

Sure, they don't even try to hide it. It's not a secret. Research the activities of the "Yulin Lychee and Dog Meat Festival" if you want to know more. Of course, the practice is not limited to the dog meat festival. There is a general belief that torturing animals makes meat tastier.
