Re: NASCAR - Ryan Newman in serious but stable condition following fiery crash
Did anyone see the liquid gushing from the car. It couldn't have been gasoline, maybe coolant?
I was so afraid that it was going to ignite

------------------

I believe those cars run on alcohol.
 Quoting: Mental Case

They run on E 15

The specialized NASCAR fuel is Sunoco Green E15, a 98 octane, unleaded fuel blend specifically engineered for high-performance engines and race cars. It’s called Green E15 because the racing fuel is actually green in color.
 Quoting: Jeff_43

I need to get a sample and test it to see what all is in it. Sounds interesting.
 Quoting: RepublicofTexas

You can buy it online. It cost just under $75 for a 5 gallon bucket. Not sure about shipping.
 Quoting: Five-seveN1775

All I need is less than 25 mL. Guess I can see what the leftover does in a coal roller though.

Yeah, omens or not.. he needs to go sell insurance and be done with this. You only get one miracle.
 Quoting: jt210

He's been racing forever and has millions, literally no reason for him not to retire after this.
 Quoting: Little Peep

You saw the crash, right? He has kids. No millions will ever replace them.

:stop:
 Quoting: jt210

Hence why I said he should retire, there's no reason for him to still be doing this.
 Quoting: Little Peep

My bad.. My reading comprehension is lacking at times. Carry on.

While some drivers, maybe even most, were wearing a HANS device when Dale died, it was not a requirement. He hated anything that restricted his movement in the car. His seat was short, his helmet was open face and he did not wear a HANS device.

It was his death that caused NASCAR to require the HANS device. However, after Adam Petty died the previous year, NASCAR should have implemented that change before the 2001 Daytona 500. Dale Sr. would likely have survived his crash.
 Quoting: Five-seveN1775

It was my understanding that his seatbelt wasn't buckled.
1dunno1
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77772240

Seat belt attach point failed in Sr's crash
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76971092

NASCAR was trying to make Simpson the fall guy. It was not the seat belt.
 Quoting: Copperhead

it was the attach point not the belt, try reading.

They run on gasoline.

Rear gear oil and maybe some gas leaking. They use straight water for coolant, antifreeze will burn.

E85
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78441444

That is not correct.
 Quoting: Sodbuster

A lot of people think that because they have E85 around the fuel filler but that is just an advertisement

That crash was unavoidable and had he died it was an accident.

There have been crashes that were avoidable in NASCAR that have killed people.

This one comes to mind.
I will not embed the video because it is a fatal crash that should have never happened. The poor guy had crashed and was fine. He told his crew on the radio he was fine, long after it was over another car comes in and T-Bones him at full speed.
She did not even try to slow or avoid him.

A blessing he is alive. Hopefully there will be no long-lasting injuries but based on what I saw of the crash, it's time to be thankful simply because he's alive.

well good...just wondering what it would take to make all cars crash proof and survivable for us normal folks
 Quoting: bcjams

They have some fairly remarkable safety things in their cars don't they? Like 5 point safety harnesses and the neck harness they implemented after Dale Earnhardt's tragic death.

Wonder if they have those blow up suits that motorcyclists use that inflate on impact or a sudden change of movement.

Either way, praying for him and his family. Horrible thing to happen.

He was in the air and still moving in the same direction at a pretty good speed. Had he been sitting on the track still, there is no way he would have lived and chances are Corey LaJoie would be hurt pretty bad as well.
