Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78495846 Assange’s lawyers said on Wednesday that former Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher offered Assange the deal in 2017, a year after emails that damaged Hillary Clinton in the presidential race had been published. WikiLeaks posted the stolen DNC emails after they were hacked by Russian operatives. The claim that Rohrabacher acted as an emissary for the White House came during a pre-extradition hearing in London. Assange has argued that he should not be extradited to the U.S. because the American case against him is politically motivated. He spent almost seven years hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in Central London claiming that he would be jailed in the U.S. if he wasn’t granted asylum. He was kicked out of the embassy last year. His lawyers told the court that Trump’s alleged offer to pardon Assange proved that this was no ordinary criminal investigation. Edward Fitzgerald, who was representing Assange in court, said he had evidence that a quid pro quo was put to Assange by Rohrabacher, who was known as Putin’s favorite congressman. Fitzgerald said a statement produced by Assange’s personal lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, included a description of “Mr Rohrabacher going to see Mr Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange... said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks.” District Judge Vanessa Baraitser, who is presiding over the pre-trial hearing in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, said the allegation would be admissible during Assange’s extradition hearing, which is due to begin next week. Fitzgerald said a statement from another Assange lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, recounted “Mr. Rohrabacher going to see Mr. Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr. Assange ... said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks.” District Judge Vanessa Baraitser said the evidence was admissible in the extradition case. Assange appeared at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday by video-link from Belmarsh prison, where he is being held as he awaits his extradition hearing. There is no quick end in sight to Assange’s long legal saga. The full extradition hearing starting Monday is due to open with a week of legal arguments. It will resume in May, and a ruling is not expected for several months, with the losing side likely to appeal. [link to apnews.com (secure)] |

It appears you didn't comprehend this part, either: Get back to me AFTER you comprehend these facts, not before, if you don't mind. Try again. This really happened today and it was read out in UK court as a matter of public record: A lawyer for Julian Assange has claimed in court that President Trump offered to pardon Assange if the WikiLeaks founder agreed to help cover up Russia’s involvement in hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee. Assange’s lawyers said under oath on Wednesday that former Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher offered Assange the deal in 2017, a year after emails that damaged Hillary Clinton in the presidential race had been published. Now I know that is not as reliable as having been said on Sean Hannity's show, right? What's Hannity have to do with anything? Did Assage not say these things himself? Was Hannity the one making the claims? No? Then your nonsense about Hannity is again irrelevant. Amusing how thedailybeast is infalable here, yet one should instead discount Assange's own words on video. Assange tells Hannity: Russia was not our source [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] :chuckle And who among us would ever doubt the accuracy of what Assange said on the Hannity show? It doesn't matter. If the guy claimed it wasn't Russia, then come testify to it in court under oath. Assange didn't. So, either Assange knew it was a lie, and since he didn't take the bait Trump offered, Trump then knew it was a lie also. Case closed. Nothing there. Trump wasn't covering up anything. |

Many different sources are reporting this within the last hour and it's a matter of public record that this was heard in court yesterday and the judge has ruled that documentary evidence is admissible. And Assange's lawyers say they have documentary evidence. Sorry, your "fake news" excuse doesn't work on this one. Fake news can and often does have some basis in reality. 10/1 odds that trumped offered a pardon if Assange gave up the real source of the emails which he has publicly stated several times before his arrest were not from Russia. Unfortunately for Assange if he divulges the leaker his credibility and that of WikiLeaks goes up in flames so doubtful he will do it. |
