My surprise about California produce

It may look pretty but overall fairly tasteless

It stays in storage for a long time here-- potatoes immediately sprout, apples are soft on the shelf, lettuce is wilty, etc. etc.

Limited variety availability, not many things from out of state-- likely due to import restrictions from other states

In sum, the state may produce a lot but the quality( and hence nutrient density) available to the consumer is limited.

The sad thing is the produce in other states seems more and more to come from California--

However, in this case, the water comes from Shasta Dam and other reservoirs which draw water from Shasta and other watersheds which are in California. Left free flowing, that water would flow through California into the Pacific. So the charge of stealing water from other states is not at all applicable in this case.
