don't remember the name of it. It is an inflatable cube you put under the fallen person. Takes some time to inflate, and the person is not super steady. But it is a workable approach for some

One of the Home Makeover shows had a veteran that needed the overhead rail to support her while walking - did up the whole house so she could be mobile - TBI patient

This device would surely be much easier and cheaper than remodeling the WHOLE HOUSE!

Assisted living communities ... apartments for the disabled ... ACCESS for the Disabled ... help for all using or trying to accommodate the ADA Laws

OP just reading the patent description i imagined it being some kind of spider looking thing that could pick a person up... sounds like a fantastic device, half the homes in florida should have one :)... congrats on becoming a zillionaire

it looks something like an old metal swingset, but not as long. A frame on the sides. Collapses small.

I will (may) turn 76 on Sunday, final stage C.O.P.D..
My wonderful wife of 56 years and I are mainly independent, apart from a lady helping me shower 3 days a week.

Just two days ago, my wife and I spoke on this, and set a couple of rules to follow. NO rushing to help. NO trying to lift the other. RING 911 or 000 or whatever FIRST. Stay calm. THINK. PAUSE. THINK. Slow down.

The ONE peril we face daily is a fall. So simple. Not a trip, not a stumble, perhaps just moving the head to look around too quickly. This can result so easily in an unstoppable pirouette that lands you (nearly) flat on the floor.

Years of taking steroids in an attempt to keep the lungs functioning has resulted in bones that consist more of airholes than bone stuff. ANY sudden impact gives them a chance to disintegrate. Sad but true. The REAL tragedy follows when the devoted partner dashes (ha ha) to assist. There is REALLY nothing they can do, but there's no way you could resist the instinct to try.

Result 1. Two highly stressed, helpless old people lying on the floor unable to rise. Waiting for the Shower Lady to arrive.

Result 2. Two highly stressed, helpless old people lying on the floor with severe fractures, unable to summon help, suffering absolute agony, knowing the only possible outcome will most probably take a long time to happen.

Although your idea will come too late for us, believe me, we will take great comfort in the knowledge things will improve, even a little, for those that follow.
