There is no escaping the virus anywhere on earth. Asymptomatic Chinese tourists have made sure of that.

This didn't just begin now....The big push was when Hong Kong went back to China.....wealthy HKer wanted to move their wealth overseas to protected it....with China being the defacto global factory, there is a whole bunch of new wealthy Chinese looking to protect their money....

Real Estate is a good port for them.....they can park their wealth in condos and townhouses while their family or relatives live in them....I'm in NJ and there are luxury condo complexes that are 40% Chinese owned....

I knew a chinese kid going to university in NYC that lived in a 4 mil brownstone by himself....his family use it for his dorm and lease it out to relatives and friends visitng the US....Lots of Chinese real estate deals are done with suitcases full of cash.....they like their cash...

Lol this is so stupid, what suit cases full of cash? you think the commies fly in with a suitcase full of cash? its all wired to an american bank from china directly to the seller or lawyer to buy the real estate

Just up the street from me a Chinese family put their house up for sale, sign outside Thursday morning, Chinese real estate agent, drove by this afternoon and was shocked to see a “Sold” sticker up on the sign!
I was always an unusual girl. My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean... And if I said I didn't plan for it to turn out this way I'd be lying...
Because I was born to be the other woman. Who belonged to no one, who belonged to everyone. Who had nothing, who wanted everything, with a fire for every experience and an obsession for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn't even talk about it,and pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me.

A few years back, there was Chinese property buying junkets to the US.....wealthy Chinese would take a charter bus to cities with investment properties for them to buy....everything was done very quickly with bankers, real estate agents, and lawyers on retainer.....

Re: Are Chinese buying up more homes in the states to escape virus?
Very dumb move by any Chinese to move to the USA to avoid this. It is coming very hard to the USA and the USA is entirely incapable of dealing with it. The citizens of the USA will never be able to quarantine peacefully like they did in China. Every major city will burn as the most vile humans on the planet inhabit the USA inner cities. The only chance the USA had was to immediately halt all international flights as soon as the virus was known. They couldn't even stop the Chinese from flying in from the same cities China would not let them travel from to other cities in China. The USA government sealed the deal...the USA is over in the very near future. Totally destroyed by its own citizens and government.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77852475

But we do have space. A rundown but functional house on 1/2 acre in some middling to poor place is not respected here. But that sort of thing isn't available in China. There are no spare 1/2 acres. And that's a good situation in which to ride out a viral infection.

Re: Are Chinese buying up more homes in the states to escape virus?
Sudden changes with my health and job forced me to put my house on the market. It’s a split level. I basically had it set up as two separate living spaces. Kinda of like two apartments.

I put it on the market and within 24 hours I have an offer $1000 over asking price and all closing paid.

I see the names on offer are Asian. That night my Asian (Chinese) neighbor calls to say it was her boss who put in the offer. She does fingernails.

Anyway, she said in December they knew this virus was bad, and so her boss sent his adult children to Vietnam from China to avoid the virus. He began buying up homes here to get his family here ASAP.

My realtor said huge uptake on asians in the buying market now.

Interesting post. I live near Los Angeles, in a very quiet neighborhood. I walk my two dogs twice a day and go on long walks, including through the neighborhoods in a town right near us which has lots of empty $5M+ homes owned by Chineses nationals. Over the last week, I have noticed on six separate occasions Chinese couples and/or a male alone walking the streets of our neighborhood (and the other neighborhoods) taking pictures of all the homes and (what piqued my interest initially)the streets signs and particularly the cross street signs. I noted it because it was odd for these neighborhoods, as I mostly just see the same people or neighbors walking on the street.

In one instance a man who parked his seven series BMW went for a walk and took photos. Later on my walk, I saw the same man meet up with another Chinese man and then they both were picked up by an Uber - across the street from where his BMW was parked. Another elderly couple who were walking the neighborhood and taking photos waited in front of my home for an Uber pick up.

I have walked these neighborhoods for years and I have never seen anything like this behavior in these neighborhoods. Maybe I am overthinking it, but to see this odd behavior on six occasions in one week given what's going on with China - I don't think so.

That said, not sure what to make of it, but after seeing your post hopefully it is just the wealthier Chinese are looking to move.

Not unusual.....I own property around NY/NJ and get offers on my properties all the time even tho they're not on the market.....mostly Chinese buyers willing to pay over market rate and promising easy sale....they are very persuasive....a Chinese investment group took a bunch of property owners to a all expenses paid dinner, drinks, and entertainment trying to close the deals....some did...I had a just had a great time and marveled at the lengths they go to....
