GLPers I NEED your input if your dog had Lyme Disease
My Lab puppy started limping (traveled to different legs) when he was 3 months old. I took him to the vet 3 times for it and she told me she suspected growing pains. After the 3rd time, on October 31st she tested him for lyme disease and it came back negative. ($100's of dollars for 3 visits and lyme test)

He is now almost 8 months old and still limping. She urged us to do x-rays on him to rule out some other possibilities, so last Wednesday, we did the x-rays ($600). The only thing the x-rays showed was a swollen knee, so they started telling me that he might have a torn ACL or OCD.

In the mean time, he started having mild seizures. His first one was Feb 2nd, and he's had 2 more since then.

I was waiting for the x-rays to be done before I talked to the vet about the seizures. So, I went to see her today. They did a full blood panel, a urinalysis and I told her I wanted another lyme test. ($400)

In the mean time, she referred me to a Orthopedic specialist for his knee and a Neurologist for his seizures.

Tonight, at dinner time, the vet called and told me the Lyme test came back positive! (Everything else was normal)

My question...do any of you have experience with this?

Do you think lyme that has not been treated will cause seizures? Does it sound like lyme was his issue all along?

But the fact is simple: Lyme disease can be very dangerous. The most common symptoms reported by patients include joint pain, muscle aches and fatigue. ... This extremely dangerous disorder can cause a number of central nervous system complications. One of them is seizures.

I know this is for people, but I can't see how it would be that much different for a dog

Those ticks are already in Belgium due to the soft winter here.
Normally it only starts in April over here.

How often does the dog get exercise? Labs should be worked/walked a lot... so much energy.

Apparently there's a vaccine for dogs but not humans. Unfortunately for me.

He goes for a hike every day. (about 1 mile) He is supposed to be on "rest" because of the suspected growing pains. Keep in mind these are not mild pains, he's on pain medication and muscle relaxers. These are very painful.

Me too. I've had lyme disease for many years. However, I follow the salt/c protocol and am able to keep flare ups at bay. I live in southeastern PA, one of the worst areas of the country for lyme, and average about 30 bites per year.

You said he had the pains at 3 months, that's so young. I wouldn't have thought it could get that bad so quickly but maybe the immune system is super-active because of the age.

Good luck with your pup!

Re: GLPers I NEED your input if your dog had Lyme Disease
First of all, switch vets!!! My dog had lyme 4 times, live in New England. Now they tried all that with me mega thousand dollar MRIs & X- ray. I said NO! I will wait for blood tests! It was a dedicated plan with antibiotics & follow up tests but worked everytime. He had the traveling in the legs but never seizures cuz he got treated immediately! But he lost something, his edge and became clingy to me & my boys didn't like that cuz he was "The wolf" now in his old age he has neurological issues in his legs and I always wonder if the lyme helped that along. My advice is dont put that tic poison on your dog cuz that is worse; poison straight to their immune system. If you can get to Canada & find a biomeridian specialist, they can cure your dog with electro magnetic energy, they banned it in US on animals & people (of course) but in Canada you can get it done on dogs.

This is kind of a faulty comparison. But people that get corona virus do well with an MMS protocol, loads of liposomal Vit C and CS on a daily basis.

There are a million ticks here. In the spring, it is usually 3 picked off per day. Borax in the yard is supposed to cut down on the numbers of ticks.

One question, how much did you pay for the pup. House animals will break your bank if you treat them like children, I have found they are pretty resilient in the grand scheme of things. We currently have a 12 year old beagle that has some tumors here and there, but we know that she has already lived the life span of the breed.....so we let is ride. We love her but know her time is short.

I paid quite a lot of money for him. (3K) His parents are national champions and the breeder is a breeder of merit with the AKC. His blood line has been going for 40 years and I got my last lab from him, who lived to 13 years old. The plan was to show him, but with these issues, that's been put on the back burner. First and foremost though, he was supposed to be a water dog (duck hunting) because he's an English lab with a double coat. But he can't do water retrieves if he has seizures.
