Well I always asked them if everyone your age only wants that job who is going to fix your cars, heater, grow your food, etc. They just stared at me blankly.

Anyone with a sewing talent could sew up good, thick, washable face masks and sell them on eBay or Craigslist.

Opportunity knocks!

Where would you get the fabric from to do it? It’s all made in China or other Asian countries. Plus fabric wouldn’t keep out viruses.
 Quoting: Little Red Hen

Fabric used to come from mills in Virginia and North Carolina because this is where cotton grows.

We may go a decade without new clothes--who actually cares but shallow people that are only about appearances.

Guess what--they do not matter and can die off and none will miss them. They do not contribute by creating things that are useful to feed, repair, fight, or heal and are literally the definition of a useless eater.

We can deal with no fashion or new clothes for a decade because appearances do not matter.

I am no liberal.

The fact that you say that reveals that you are a retard of no substance to counter with any logic a zombie like the Libs only a different flavour of zombie.

I don't have to step in human shit as Canada unlike the USA is not bankrupt yet and can afford to maintain its infastructure.

Ok retard, now why don't you consider reality.

As holding your breath and spouting Trump will save me s he is better than Clinton or Obama isn't working very well for you, is it, in this 3D where you live?

What do you not understand ? Basically If Trump cared he would not support China in his business and lie about it to you... right. Like if he followed Jesus he would not own casinos to steal money and encourage a gambling addiction right ?

Do you wish to discuss this logically or just leave a verbal meme ?

Here's ONE thing I understand, Sport: your reality is another man's fantasy. In the "real" world, there are gears within gears within gears within gears and unless they all mesh the entire system grinds to a halt.

Saying that he "lied to us" are just empty words unless you can prove it and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would find it enjoyable to see you try to do just that.

Suggesting that President Trump magically knew about this impending crisis when he brokered those Chinese trade agreements is simply ludicrous but still somehow cemented in a superior mind like you imagine your own to be. At least our leader has tried for the past three years to make our country self-sustaining - what's your own pretty-boy Justine done for YOU?

So, answer this: how many Chinese imports are floating around Canada right now and what makes you think for one second that your own nation won't shutter factories?

You're pretty arrogant coming from such a huge landmass that somehow has never been considered a super power... but then, you ARE Canadian and can do no wrong, RIGHT?
 Quoting: GSB/LTD

If 911 occurs in Canada there will be a problem or if a man used a woman's bathroom where I live.

My point was simply that it's a lie that Trump is pro USA and makes your country weaker by being a part of the SWAMP system.

If I say I am making building the Canadian economy by supporting shit made in another country an I not a liar ?

Imagine if you have no food in grocery stores for a few months ....what will you do once your pantry runs bare? People are going to lose their shit big time!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75890110

We will truck in grain, beans, etc. to the cities. If there is one miller and baker, we can provide basic food for millions of people.

My Wife is from a country that suffered a ruinous civil war. Her father was an entrepreneur.

Suddenly, one day the stores were empty! The people panicked.

Her father rented a big truck and took his stash of bills. Went to the next country over and filled the truck with rice, beans, masa, etc.

Came home and saved the people while turning a nice profit.

THAT is what will happen in the USA.

I have decided that if cash is worthless, I will trade produce from my farm for things of value. You want a bowl of beans and rice for lunch? Costs one gallon of gas or diesel, or a couple of pounds of copper pipe, or whatever I can use.

We need to think about positive ways we can survive together.
 Quoting: darth

You are wise and prepared.

The millenials that cannot repair a car, sink a well, build a home generator out of an old washing machine tub and motor to power a home, or cover a building with a roof will have no place, and we really won't lose any part of humanity that matters when they suicide behind their loss of social media or their snappy chats.

Maybe they can share photos of themselves starving rather than strutting their Chinese crap fashions they formerly purchased.

Better yet that conceited fashionista with implants and botox can pick up a shovel and start digging a garden or her own grave. Either one will benefit humanity.

Are oil filters manufactured in china?

Could be a problem at your next oil change.
 Quoting: Mental Case

Some are. Some aren't.

Most of the oil filters I sell are made in the USA.

But the constituent parts inside of them? Who knows?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78174186

Same with tires. There are a lot of tires made in the US (Bridgestone/Firestone makes truck, bus and passenger service radials here) but the actual rubber comes from SE Asia (Vietnam) and the synthetic rubber from USA. So a mixed bag on tires and a few other niche industries.

On the whole I’m in total agreement: we’ve relied on China way too much for way too long.

Short of a Manhattan Project effort, it’d take us a while to come back online fully, and even then we’re still somewhat reliant on foreign export. It wouldn’t be near as much as it is now, but somewhat.

Bring manufacturing back to the States!

If you have children, remember that they will be growing out of their clothes (underwear, too), and buy some larger sizes now while you can, especially outdoor wear. Life is going to get much tougher. If you live in snow country, make sure that includes winter boots in ascending sizes. If money is a factor, go to the thrift store. Deseret LDS thrift stores generally have very high quality stuff, if there is one in your area.

If things don't end up being so bad, the clothes can still be used as the kids grow into them.

I went to the dollar store and bought ten of those reader glasses in various strengths. They will be good for barter.

Last run to Costco will be Monday.

So, I ask you again: what has Trudeau done to match a fraction of what our own leader has accomplished? Justine's fixation on alternative genders alone renders him a global laughing stock who will never generate the respect of President Trump, no matter how many Nehru jackets Trudeau wears as he unwittingly insults hosting cultures.

Incidentally: back in the 60's when STAR TREK was first aired, I actually learned how to play 3-D Chess and I feel comfortable in saying the game would be far beyond your levels of concentration.

But I'll admit some people on occasion have accused me of being a liberal/leftist too.

You may be quasi-rightwing when it comes to certain cultural issues but amore liberal when it comes to certain economic issues.

In today's era, such political schizophrenia isn't worth a damn. That's because liberalism in the category of culture has a way of generally fucking up the category of economics. Or visa versa.

Trudeau has done what is expected of him to drive the nation further into debt. Like Trump in the USA. They are the same.

Only Trump is not as gay, but identical.

If Trump or Trudeau cared they would ban GMO, fagottry, controll immigration and not give millions to other nations before their own. Right ?

The reality is that the USA and Canada's executive teams are shit compared to Russia.

Trump is more concerned with Israel and building a temple and those that stroke his ego.

What is he doing about the obvious swamp, the debt, sending troops home ? But Hillary would be better...??? There is not one leader among your political system worthy of voting for, that is the only reason (based on evidence) that Trump gets voted in. But they all are obvious SWAMP.

But Trump is the Chosen One to lead the peop,e to Greenland ?

He isn't even a good troll, only his base lacks the logic to identify this. If any other leader did what Trump does they would call him a retard.

Imagine Putin saying " I am the Chosen one" imagine Putin groping Gulliani dressed in drag like a queer.

Your 3D grandmastery is obvious. Your forefathers laugh at you.

If you are counting on Trump for MAGA how will he do it ?

Give me the plan.

If you are not a raving leftist, northern Idaho is an awesome place to be right about now. For anyone that is feeling trapped in the city, put on your thinking cap and see if there is a way for you to get out of Dodge ASAP, this is not a drill.

I thank God I moved up here 3 years ago. I've made good friendships, learned the local weather, roads and mountains, and added greatly to my preps. Currently planning my garden for maximum output and storage potential.

The weather today was 49°F (we consider that warm) and even if you just showed up in a travel trailer, you would be fine until October. I have a friend from the Bay Area who moved up here with a trailer and parked it in his friends barn. He was fine through the winters, plugged in to the electricity in the barn. Six months later he had a job at the Sheriff's Department.

Having a portable home would allow you to get out quickly, and give you a chance to sort things out, meet like minded people, find some work. Bring your food preps, guns & ammo, any skills you have. It's almost impossible to find rentals up here, as many of the locals are unable to buy due to not being able to save up enough $$ for a down payment to buy.

I used to live in Orange County. If I were still there, I would take out a bank loan and buy this 24 ft. travel trailer for $5,800:
[link to orangecounty.craigslist.org (secure)]

and make payments to the bank for as long as I could. World economy is going to crash anyway. Then I would head north as fast as I could pedal.

People in the large cities are going to wish they had thought through this pandemic scenario all the way to the end.

Nothing personal and thank you for the conversation, I have to be on guard as there are always shills shitting on me. It's refreshing.

I am not political but old fashioned and simple. I understand that if I do not work while there is light I it will be more difficult in darkness.

I would go back to Russia to a village where life is hard but normal, but soon life will be normal nowhere.

The problem is beyond politics and even Putin who seems normal is a part of the Swamp, I think.

I lived and worked in the USA and love many things about it and like you and most here miss it. As a strong USA is good for the world, even in its differences. There are little things I respect, such as being given a canadian flag from an old timer who understood what it meant, he got it somehow and didn't toss it waiting for years to give it to me the first canuck he met, as I would of done with ol glory If I had one.

Anyway it was good meeting you)

The impact of China’s manufacturing shutdown is beginning to spread.

“ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A local manufacturer could be closing up shop because of the deadly coronavirus outbreak and it could impact dozens of local workers.

Danfoss Turbocor Processors may be forced to temporarily shut down production because it is running out of parts from China.”

Where I work expected ship times for fiber optic cables are already in the middle of March. Hope everyone is ready.

Most of China Returns To Work As Wuhan’s Home Province Announces Delay Until March

"It’s been a very long Lunar New Year holiday for China, especially for factory workers who can’t work remotely and need to wait on local government regulations. Shanghai Securities News found that provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong — home to a vast number of textile and clothing factories — have the highest return-to-work rate at 60 to 70 percent as of this Tuesday compared to other provinces at 40 percent. Meanwhile, Hubei, the home province of the Covid-19’s epicenter, Wuhan, has issued another delay on the return-to-work date, which is now set for March 10."

All you greedy individuals running companies across this Republic have been selling out your fellow Americans by relying on cheap goods from China. I'm not losing any sleep over this, you all have exactly what's coming to you .

The communist party in China are sending their own people to death just so they can continue their manufacturing machine. The Lord God has caused all this evil virus to fall on themselves because of their godlessness.

No one so far here understands how long it would take us to retool. Actually infrastructure support parts would be priority. Modern 3-d printing and table top six axis mills are toys now. Prototypes of complex items are many times next day.
Most of Chinese output is hoarder crap, Many other countries make transformers, fiber optics, car parts, but the US still has super powers. I have dismal luck with anything with china components. Mexico sucks too. But.... if trash trucks are used to remove the dead from the streets and metro areas burn, what good is on time delivery.

what they fail to realize is the greedy CEO's will NOT build factories and pay higher wages. that would cut into their progfits and sales.

let me explain. how long is the MSM saying CHINA is down for? they haven't. they are saying it is fine and CHINA will b up and producing in no time. so the CEO's think if they just wait a few weeks or even a month, everything will b fine. so why would they even try to build factories and pay us higher wages ???

now u might see some factories changed over to produce medical supplies. as some pointed out this will b switched to other countries until they get infected also.

if u are locked up at home how much $$ are u making to spend follishly on their knick nacks? $0. no demand = no need to produce it.

as i have point out before some things are needed. medical supplies and medicine is a small part of it. food is another. PACKAGING for those items is a biggy. nothing is trucked without it being boxed, bottled, shrink wrapped, etc. where is these materials coming from? our recycling ships to China, they recycle the trash, and use it to package new stuff.see a problem? this cahin is broken.
