Why wouldn’t you help your friends and family?

Toss them some food and medicine if need be.

You gonna let your cousin and aunt just die when your sitting on a mountain of supplies?

That is NOT the way forward.

Help people if you can. I am not saying to be a sucker.
But have a little bit of food for the starving.

Show mercy. It is NOT weakness.

If it's a virus SHTF then you really don't want to shoot or fight with them...you just want them to go away.

You don't want them breathing on your door....let alone bleeding on it!

Sweet Mother of God !! Damn man, can I be on your team? That’s the best kind of prepping.

There is only one correct answer to this situation. Yes, we should be quiet about our preps. But sometimes things slip out or people see stuff.
The solution is this. I have done it and it works. People will say all the time, when the SHTF I’m coming to your house. The best response is why? I will be bugged out in ( make up a location). If you plant the seed now, when the SHTF occurs, hopefully they do not show. If they do well...

They could have prepped...I shouldn't have to pay for their piss poor decisions!

Luckily I live hundreds of miles from cousins, aunts/uncles. I have a son I'd give my last breath to with zero hesitation.

There are nice folks in my general vicinity but it's really the sticks here. I would help who I could because I believe in that, but due to my location no way would I be swamped with people knocking on my door.

Break out the BBQ sauce


Potatoes with the white folks
Beans and salsa with the mexicans
Rice and stur fried greens with the Asians

As a former pool owner I experienced neighbors coming over like my property was for their consumption. Not only is that an insurance risk but they expected to be fed too. They wouldn't leave until I got firm with them.

Being friendly and nice is one thing. Giving away and sharing your money/food/belongings is another thing. We are not obligated to help others, especially those who are capable of taking care of themselves.

I've flat out told them I would shoot them.

Load up on plenty of rice and beans for your friends and neighbors; and for a special treat, throw in a can or two of Spam, and a hefty bag of Purina Dog Chow or Kibbles & Bits. It will put a smile on their face. If that doesn’t do the trick, offer to give them better grub; provided they make you the executor of their estate; just in case they don’t make it. Play the odds and numbers; there’s bound to be one of them that turns out to be a winner, and your going forward “meal ticket”. Get it? Meal ticket.

I’m nice folk. So where exactly do you live? I don’t eat much and I can cook and clean and be a lookout for those pesky no good neighbors.

Really Only people I prepped for know I prepped!

The best way to do you long term basic foods storage is LDS providentliving.org packed in #10 cans most with a shelf life of 30 years! Cost about the same as store bought in bags!
I just got the mother in law a years worth or 650,000 calories for $550. 6 cases of rice, 2 cases black beans calories are higher, a case of white beans, a case of pinto beans, case of pasta and one of apple slices, 3 cases rolled oats filled the bed of my ranger.

I've had family & friends ask me to stop right now & bring my truck over to help them move something.

When I say no...they try to brow beat me into it...it would go on for hours if I allowed it but I usually just say no again & hang up the phone.

If they are willing to try to guilt trip me over something like that...how do you think it will be when they are hungry? When their kids are hungry?

Your preps should include enough extra to cover family dropping in.

Once you turn them away, they die slow, if the push, you have to decide if you want to use lethal force.

Either way, not good choices. Better to have enough to go around.

You need to experience a sudden loss, similar to the boating accident wherein you lost all your nugs. Now contact these friends/relatives and tell them you are in serious need, and will be coming to their house when you are hungry, because there's nothing else you can do. Tell them they still have a few days to purchase goods, maybe until this Thursday, but that you have no money left with which to buy anything - you are flat broke and everything you had is gone - and stick to it. Tell them you will be there in a few days, and will be staying. Ask if they have your brand of coffee, and enough masks and gloves for everyone.

Now contact these friends/relatives and tell them you are in serious need, and will be coming to their house when you are hungry,

OP this is a great thread and I have contemplated the same exact thing. I’m not as much worried about turning them away, I can do that, as I am them showing up at my doorstep as carriers of the virus.

There are no easy answers. Someone on page 1 mentioned bear spray and that’s not a bad idea, except that these people are probably family (or your wife’s family).

I have no answers for you but I am bumping this thread to see what other GLPers come up with.

You might not need to knock on their door, because when the gubmental announcements are made, this week, things will go south in a hurry and they may not be out running around, but it might be fun to go knock and tell them you are there to move in. Take an overnight bag with you. I think they will not open the door.

On the other hand, don't bother going there, and let them have their hands full with the legalities that just erupted.

Whichever way, your starving condition and request for your own brand of coffee and such should make them almost forget they ever knew you!

None of us should open our doors for anyone. Dangerous in so many ways.

If you have pets, never leave them behind. If they have to go outside, you stay right with them until their business is done, and go armed every time. Lock the door behind you, making certain you have the key in your pocket.

Nobody out, nobody in - only way to stay safe. If martial law, do not be outside your door. Period!

You just want them to leave & you don't want to open the door!

Maybe a way to pour out some ammonia to foul the air...a painfully loud BANG...something just to get them to leave.
