Perimeter Security Detection Discussion ( how to detect unexpected guests)
I live in a rural area and have a long driveway. For 5 year's I've had a reliable driveway alarm to alert me when someone is approaching. I tried a few different ones and finally landed on this one. It supports an unlimited number of transmitters, but they can only be programmed to 4 different zones/chimes.
[link to www.absoluteautomation.com (secure)]

I just ordered 3 more transmitters, so I can place them around the perimeter of my property. They claim a 1/2 mile range, but the furthest I've tried is 1/4 mile.

I don't want to get into any details about other preps or plans on what to do when an intruder is detected, I just want to focus on detection because if this goes the way I think it will, there will be herds of people fleeing big cities and into country areas like where I live.

I wanted to start a thread to discuss the importance of utilizing technology to give you an advanced warning that someone is approaching.

Please share your thoughts and experience. This is meant for everyone to learn from and hopefully better protect their families.

For those on a tight budget, I also ordered this package ($33) to try out. The reviews are not bad and I will gladly give my review once I have a chance to install and test.

Those are great, but they have to be wired correct ?

What is the longest you can run a wire for those ?

I have a camera system now
but it's dependent on AC power.

these devices are battery-operating and very low drain,
which means they'll work over a wider range of conditions.

Claymore is a good idea, but could be a relative and that would be somewhat indiscriminate. Need the mother-in-law detector 5a

camera systems are a great solution, especially the ones that detect motion and send a text message with image.
From what I know, they are wired which means they are limited to the exterior of your home. That's a little too close for me for an initial alert

BUY A FLIR GEN 1,2 or 3 thermal camera
CONNECT THE FLIR CAMERA END TO A LARGE ANDROID TABLET THEN CAST IT TO A WIFI TV IN YOUR PANIC ROOM.
THE THERMAL OPTICS ARE COOL AND YOU CAN DETECT THE HEAT SIGNATURE FRON LONG DISTANCES IN THE DARK

Mine works in both my home and my metal pole shed.
I have taken the receiver there if I plan to be working in it for the day. transmitter is about 800 feet from the shed and works every time.

yes, they're wired and they're only cameras, no alert.

These are really cool. I saw a video where I guy made these with mouse traps and empty shells and some string. I'd be too afraid I wouldn't hear it (concrete house) or maybe it wouldn't trip

I tried to find the video showing how to use these, but I think YouTube deleted it.

Not the Mighty Mule driveway alarm, it works on electromagnetism and only detects vehicles.
