I have to go back and re-listen to it. But I have audio tape of my grandfather talking about some sort of corn mash they kept in the cellar during prohibition to partake in after a day in the field.

I think he called it sour mash. My recollection is, he said it was awful but did the trick.

The essential is yeast, whether it be good quality beer or wine yeast or even Fleischmann's bread yeast. This is the thing you should prep.

ANYTHING with sugar can be made alcoholic with yeast -- fruit juice, honey water, just plain sugar water, anything.

But, prepping a beer-making kit makes no sense. Where are you going to get malt from? Hops?

All you need is a jug (at least a gallon size), an airlock, and yeast.
