San Francisco has declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus.


The Californian city hasn't recorded any cases of COVID-19, according to the Independent, however officials are worried about the city's preparedness if and when it hits.







San Francisco Mayor London Breed said: "We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm."

I shouldn't need to say this because this is GLP after all, but it's worth restating:

PREPARE RIGHT NOW OTHERWISE IT'LL BE TOO LATE

DO NOT broadcast what you're doing on Facebook and DO NOT tell your neighbors. Just quietly buy your shit, make your trips to and fro, and make sure you and your family are well prepared and able to hunker down for up to a month without leaving the house. Do not be one of those schmucks caught with empty cupboards when the SHTF.

WIPE DOWN GOODS YOU BUY WITH DISINFECTANT WIPES

This only applies to goods with hard surfaces, like bottles, tins, tubs of butter and so on. You don't how many people have handled them already. Recently purchased goods with hard non-porous surfaces are a significant potential source of infection. Try to avoid buying loose fruit and vegetables and buy them prepackaged instead.

INSIST THAT ANYONE ENTERING YOUR HOME IMMEDIATELY WASH THEIR HANDS FOR A MINIMUM OF 20 SECONDS

I cannot stress how important this is. You have to make this AN UNBREAKABLE IRON RULE. No matter how annoying it is, no matter how much the kids complain, everyone must do it WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Make sure they do not touch ANYTHING in your home before washing, especially door handles or light switches.

If anyone brings a phone with them, INSIST they wipe it with disinfectant wipes BEFORE they wash their hands, and do not let them touch it for at least 20 minutes. People wash their hands and go straight back on their phones and reinfect themselves with all the shit that's lurking on the screen. Do not fall victim to such a simple mistake.

DO NOT LET ANY GUESTS IN YOUR HOME IF THEY HAVE COLD SYMPTOMS. NONE. PERIOD.

Make it known that visitors MUST call you before turning up at your home, and if they have the sniffles then tell them flat out to stay away. For everyone else, make tissues available and INSIST that people cough and sneeze directly into them. Have a special bin set aside for disposing of the tissues.

This should be enough to protect you as much as possible in your home. Some of this can apply to the workplace too. Please add any other common sense measures you think will help.
