Just thought I’d share I have no doubt Communist China would be downplaying their numbers, but for a country with a population of 1.2 billion, 4,000 dead isn't very significant. I wouldn't be surprised if that many people die in a single day every single day from natural causes or otherwise in a country of that magnitude. It would be a lot doomier with 400 million infected and 6 million dead, but the numbers you suggest are nothing to scream about, all things relative. I am aware this not means 21 million deaths, but some speculate up to 7,5 million deads and no less that 1,5 million deads would be a safe margin to find the real number of deaths, considering that China experienced a pneumonia peak of 1.200.000 cases above average on December 2019.
