Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 77983873 United States 02/26/2020 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So now we're prepping for luxury? Coffee, tea, hot showers whenever and whatever I desire? Come on man! That sounds like glamping. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76408544 I'm prepping to SURVIVE! I will eat cold beans before I buy this! Second, I will kill a rabbit or other critter and build a fire. I deployed to the fucking Middle East and let me tell you, we figured out some small ways to keep luxury even there. There's more to survival than cold beans out of a can, for pity's sake. I camped with Lakota native Americans, the ultimate survivors, and they are very organized about their food. Coffee pot goes on the Coleman stove before dawn, and the beautiful smell wakes you up. First light the bacon hits the skillet, then pancakes. So they make a point of enjoying their lives at camp, not just surviving. They can also just as easily go days without eating anything at all and never mention it. If you try to feed them or sympathize with them, "I'm fine." They also never mentioned "how hot" or "how freezing cold" it was, weather was completely irrelevant to them. Stoicism seems built into their DNA. Amazing people and culture. When you live closer to nature for generations, you can tolerate both the heat and the cold much better. Like the Scandinavians who chop holes in ice and take a swim. There are genetic factors, but also mental fortitude is such a huge part of things - and in many cases is cultural. |

I have a small one burner propane stove and lots of propane tanks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76376503 Ok that works too - some of these little stoves will also use either or. get a attachment so you can use a BBQ size propane tank What I really, really want is a little brown gas range - retrofitted to work with small propane tanks. In my dreamy of dream world I have all kinds of stuffs. Wood cook stove, gas range, and bug out butane stove - little rocket stoves. Wood cookstoves - are kinda like porn for me. I live in Florida now so they are kinda out of the question, but trust me I look at images . . . oh, do I look at the images. You know what else is really - oh, nice. Tiny little stoves that can go on boats. Little bitty tiny little stoves. Its a romance. |

I don't need additional 'things' to carry around. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76408544 Preppers need minimal items. Easy to pack up, move around and get away. Because, if you are in emergency and need quickly to make just a pot of tea or instant coffee, from the moment you desire it and you can have it ready, it's just in a matter of minutes... not so easily with a fire, which you need to start, to develop it, etc. And mostly is that you want to do it w/o leave a large trace in heat thermal vision domain nor making huge setups that could take long time and could expose you if you are on the run or something. This is said that 90% of population will disappear in the first few weeks after a SHTF scenario, because of lemmings like you! LOL, excellent - Also some older ladies cannot handle a big propane tank. Those little cans of butane can be picked up over time at a few dollars each. Of course we are all afraid of Asian folks right now due to the virus but an excellent, low cost place to look at a variety of these stoves and get cheap butane are the Asian Markets. For Floridians near the Orlando area, 50 in Winter Park has a slew of very large Asian food and goods markets. I think you can manage a pretty good emergency back up set up of stove and fuel for $30 bucks or less. Can you handle a "big one?".. just askin.. |

I guess a good fat wrap is the ultimate prep. LOL To be honest, being able to fast is a very helpful ability. You won't panic over sugar fits - and your body gets an immune burst. What I hate about prepping food is its mostly stuff I juts don't want to eat, yeah - yeah when I am starving and all - but the truth is I have never starved so its hard to look at all the high salt canned food and think it will appeal. |

The hard core camper back woods types really knew how to innovate. You also learn you really can get by with out a whole lot. It totally shook my world view, I try very hard to stay minimalist since. I also get rid of stuff that is not useful. I have, as a matter fact spent all day cleaning out my cabinets so I can organize my preps for this stupid freaking flu. Hard to put my heart in it though - cuz from a command and control standpoint if this is really bad - its gonna be beyond what you can prep for. Gonna need interesting skill sets if we make it through this. |

They are expensive and you burn through them quickly. Propane is better as you can hook them up to big tanks and refill canisters. But the best imo is probably a Coleman dual fuel stove that can burn white gas stove fuel, or unleaded gasoline. They have small single burner versions and the classic two burner style. They're not quite as handy as canisters as you have to pump the tank and it takes a minute to warm up and burn efficiently but the less expensive fuel and option to use unleaded gas if necessary makes them a much better SHTF option. |

User ID: 77515635 United States 02/29/2020 06:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] Would this be the portable stove (with its own carrying case for $20) that the previous posters are recommending? Intend to use it if the power goes out and for camping. Because I live in a gated condo complex in Vegas I cannot build a wood burning fire on my patio due to restrictions. Need the easiest possible way to eat a cup of water for my French Press and get 1 cup of coffee, or hot liquid for herb tea or soup. Thanks in advance for your ideas. |

They take up little space, are very light weight, and fuel is readily available and cheap. They are meant for one person cooking, but I have cooked for four people before. Trangia also makes a little camp cooking set to go with the stove. I have some of those too. They are awesome. The best fuel I have found is Heet. In the yellow bottle. It is a fuel line de-icing agent, but its just denatured alcohol. Plus, you can literally find it everywhere for about $1.50 per bottle. |
