Im ill too, I live in the UK, whats these paid sick days? No such thing here! No work, no pay and we can thank the EU for that change in law! This of course excludes those on a salary, those of us who are paid hourly cannot ever afford to take sick time as this impacts our employment references and will prevent is getting a future job.

Rent? You are funding someone else's retirement fund.

The problem is that the people who can't afford to stay home are generally in the service industry. I say this because restaurants and retail are generally part time jobs. Some don't offer much paid time off. People have to work until they physically aren't able. Customers will continue to shop/eat until they have symptoms.

I live in Florida. Even when people know a hurricane is coming, and prepare, they are chomping at the bit to get back to shopping and eating at restaurants.

Several years ago, my neighbor knocked on my door and asked if he could borrow $600 for his mortgage. I gave it to him then realized I made a mistake when I watched him polishing his new truck. About six months later, I saw him in his yard with two puppies. When I asked whose they were, he said, "They're mine. I got a bargain! Both for $400.00!"
