Anyone else getting blowback about trying to prepare and manage exposure during this time?
Got several family functions next month and this summer. Also got to make tuition arrangements.

I don't want to be foolish or spooked or naive but...

And spouse and extended fam are pissed. They want to go on as though everything is normal. I don't want to waste money on tickets we won't use or make plans or raise expectations for the kids about get togethers that are not going to happen.

I feel like we should be on a day by day, week by week basis. Stand by, so to speak.

I think they are crazy. They think I am crazy.

Family gatherings are important.
Make plans to attend up until people are dropping like flies in the streets.

i am on the same page

how an you plan, since this thing seems to be spreading like fire.

they are downplaying it here in the US (they haven't been testing so how are they supposed to know any real numbers here? honestly!!

you are right, because there is no way of knowing how this is going to play out daily, let alone a week or two away, a month away??

i told my hubby, in a couple months, the life as we know it might be totally different and never the same again

if this gets bad here, people can't work, we wont be able to get supplies, we will be like china and freaking out. we do have better medical but just how many people can they treat? can the USA survive with a large amount of people quarantined? or do you just not quarantine them and keep businesses going?

Yes and it’s okay. They will understand soon. We are entering the tribulation and must also help them prepare spiritually too.

I feel ya, we mentioned it once to people, if they engage, we continue, if they change the subject or talk about how many people the regular flu kills every year, that ends the conversation. I never realized how sheepy the sheep really are, even friends who claim to prepare.

Re: Anyone else getting blowback about trying to prepare and manage exposure during this time?
I am getting the same. I have family in this weekend and we like to go to bars and listen to music (usually) and I am NOT going to a crowded bar. Asked my hubby to not go too.

Next weekend I had tickets for a concert in a large arena, which also would mean a stay in a hotel. (like 25,000 people at concert). People think I’m crazy, but I cancelled and trying to sell the tickets. Hubby did agree with me on that one finally but then again I have a suppressed immune system and there is no way to control who breathes on you while packed in getting to seats or who is sitting around you.

All my friends who traveled to be here via air travel this weekend think I’ve lost my mind. Hate to remind them that I’ve been right about how this thing would play out nearly every step of the way.

I was supposed to go to Florida for a business trip in 3 weeks and I’ve already cancelled that.

If I’m wrong fine, but if I’m right then the risk is too great.

I have been thinking the same thing. Seriously?? I'm shocked that no one can see what's happening. The GOG MAgog war is ramping up as we speak, there has been the largest locust swarm in recorded history a killer virus is ravaging the planet, and the world economy is about to completely collapse, but eh, things will eventually get back to normal right? Riiiiiight

Even the news is talking about "social distancing" so why keep planning events? It's a waste of time, energy and money.

I understand where you are coming from. Currently my spouse thinks I am nuts to delay plans and stock up on food. I think they are in denial. They have family plans in May saying we will be busy. I said not likely due to Corona, but said go ahead and plan and pay and if we lose money it is on them. Time will tellk who is right. I hope they are but believe I am. I sincerely believe we will be in a much worse position come May.

And really, all I've prepped is a full pantry and full bath cabinets. That's not a lot.

Though it it is more than usual. We are are typically check to check on an as needed basis.

Re: Anyone else getting blowback about trying to prepare and manage exposure during this time?
I'm just going with the flow. Planning like there is not a problem. But, I'm also getting all mt preps in order and making sure I'm ready for a long term quarantine. If necessary, I can take my whole family in and stay away from the outside world for a year or more. In the last couple months, I have made some improvements at my bug out location, just to make life easier.

A lot of my friends and family are also preppers, and are doing the same thing. Since I am not bucking the system, yet, I haven't seen any negative reaction. We have plans in place to do some traveling in the next couple of months, and that has not changed,,, yet. If this virus becomes a big problem in America, I will just disappear until it's all over.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I’m in the same boat.

Most of my siblings don’t want to know because they are in their 60-70s range and just want to play golf and act like nothing is going on. They feel like life is too short to worry at this point.

Me - I have a bunch of grandkids and I’m scared for them. We have trips scheduled for April, May, and July - all vacations paid for in full already - family time. I hope we get to go but ..... who knows at this point?

But yeah..... my siblings think I’m crazy. And I think they’re stupid.

Re: Anyone else getting blowback about trying to prepare and manage exposure during this time?
My husband was not on board much because I have stocked up before and nothing happened. At first he was saying it's not a big deal, but in the past week, he pulled all the money out of the 401K and right now is out buying extra brakes, oil filters, belts and air filters for both cars and getting what we need for the tillers, lawn mower and all the other equipment. I'm in charge of food and in house preps and seeds.
What a relief not to be tugging and pulling against each other at a time like this.

We are not buying anything we don't normally eat or use.

None will go to waste if this dies down. And we can't last forever on what we have, but peace of mind is there that we are doing what we can to be ready for whatever this turns out to be.

I'm not telling others to prep. That will signal that I am prepping. Last night I hid everything in a room where no one goes in case company comes and starts asking questions.

Fuck, I hate this!

I argue with people as well. They say that they "aren't going to live their lives in fear", and basically, they are going to continue to do what they've always done. And then it turns into a big thing. So, screw 'em.

Normalcy bias.

If the majority of the population thinks they have a bright future ahead them despite millions of blacks and sand people flooding in, you aren't going to convince them that coronavirus is anything to worry about.

Idiocy seems to define our species.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

We decided to step back from our volunteer positions at our church this week, and I know it’s going to put them in a pinch. Normally, we’d be in direct contact with about 1500 people a weekend. My wife was in tears over the decision and I could sense some obvious confusion and pressure coming from the church when we told them, but my gut is telling me it’s the right call....at least for now.
