Panic Buying In the US Has Begun!

Northwest Indiana here. I went shopping yesterday. Nothing out of the normal and all the shelves were full. I went to Walmart, Dollar Tree, Aldis,and the local chain grocery store. All of them were stocked and no panic buying.

Right. There are about 1 million people (including tourists) on the island of Oahu, which is not that big. If there are shortages, you can't just drive to the next county. The next county is another island.

I'm doing triple grocery shopping - this week, doubling up the pantry and putting extra in my basement.

They can wash off in the ocean!

I did the math for me and my girlfriend . We use a 22$ family pack of TP from WalMart each month (omg she uses a lot).
Anyway it's like $264 a year for toilet paper which is the same as my garbage bill per year.

I've heard about local schools needing to be 'sterilized' just in case.

Then just crap in the trash maybe? 'Upcycle' those used paper plates and paper towels? j/k

Went to Walmart last night shelves fully stocked and pallets of stuff coming out of the back. San Diego. I stocked up just in case I have a family to look after. Even hype can get us locked down at this point. It’s 85 here today

Don't put toilet paper in the basement. That's for the heavy stuff.

Put the toilet paper in a (new) lawn-size garbage bag, close it up, and throw it in your attic.

Then just crap in the trash maybe? 'Upcycle' those used paper plates and paper towels? j/k

No panic buying in Macedonia, Ohio. Just went there to pick up an order and walked the store. All well stocked, no empty shelves. I saw one guy w/ 2 20 pound bags of rice and 4-5 bags of dried beans, maybe a prepper but everyone else had the normal stuff. Even their gun case in sporting goods was well stocked (for a Walmart) - a Ruger 10/22s, a variety of Mossberg shotguns and a few each of Henrys, Remingtons and larger caliber Savage rifles. Looked like a normal day to me.

38k+ population town in Middle Tennessee. Went to the CVS today for miscellaneous things, and a man in his 60s walked up to the cashier and asked if they had any masks. She replied no. Then he wanted to know where the rubbing alcohol was and came back with two bottles.

I asked her how long they had been out of masks. She said since last week. I also asked her if she had had a lot of people asking for them. She said yes. Kind of weird for our town. I guess people are paying attention. Never would have occurred to me to go to a drugstore for masks.

CVS? You enjoy getting fucked over when you shop?

Are there still supply ships from China in port - or incoming? Stock replenishment is probably from the warehouses.

fingerhut, walmart, are out of emergency food kits

Monday night at Sam’s club I saw a few folks stocking up on water, but considering the flood we just had it may have been related to that instead of prepping. I haven’t noticed the sheeple panicking yet!!

In India they are using toilet paper from Texas. They call it John Wayne toilet paper. It's rough, it's tough and it doesn't take shit from any Indian...

A few days in customs and to get loaded onto trucks and distributed to warehouses across the USA.

Warehouses and distributors are starting to feel it now.
Retail stores, next week.

In fact, today I went to buy a standalone charger for my gopro.
All 4 stores that carry them in town are out.
Asked at Fred Meyer, and the clerk looked it up.
She said:
"Out of stock at our warehouse. Backordered, no ETA date."

I held my nose and ordered one from amazon.

Went to Sam's today. It wasn't crowded at all. Plenty of stock. They're now short 100 pounds of rice and 50 pounds of beans, but I left several pallets worth for the scavengers.

Went to a Wal-Mart in Central Kansas today to get the car lubed and checked up, so walked around the store. Most shelves looked just fine.

Did notice no Bulk Size peanut butter, that shelf was fully stocked on Tuesday. The last of the 30 Day emergency food kit was gone, but I expected that.

Rice was gone mostly in the big bags. Pasta was fine. Toilet Paper looked depleted but not gone.

Besides the Peanut butter, rice, and emergency food, I'd have written off the state of the shelves to a very warm weekend ahead which also has a big in-state rivalry game happening in Basketball tomorrow.

Did see a few people wearing masks. Of course checked and they were out but that's been situation normal since things started spreading in China.

One thing that did catch my eye as weird was I noticed more people using the wipes to rub the cart handles and their hands before going on into the store. Also there was a trash can in the bathroom so people could use their paper towel to open the door before binning it. Both very good things to be seeing out and being used.
