This came from someone else I work with who said the PTs were tested and it was "normal" coronavirus that we supposedly "can get and do routinely ge"t in this country. She is in a position to know directly what is going on. Quoting: telling it straight BTW both patients discharged. Is that actually true? I've never heard of American people getting coronavirus but maybe it's true? When I asked how we knew it wasn't covid19 since we weren't and couldn't test for that she just dismissed it as no big deal and I should ask the doc. She said "look on the back of a bottle of lysol, they even name it as something it kills. It's very common." So, no big deal, nothing to see here. I was happy to see other staff members VERY concerned about the virus but worried we don't have anywhere near enough PPE and there was a lot of concern about management downplaying the risk to staff. If this is typical of other hospitals in urban areas, and I suspect it is. We've got a problem. This is totally true, cattle carry corona virus we vaccinate them against it. This corona can be passed to humans too. The "Coronavirus" is a family of a particular type of viruses that include the Common Cold. I think all Coronaviruses attack the respiratory system. There are variations that are specific to cows, cats, dogs and humans. Some of them can be cross spread between species. The reason they have never "cured" the Common Cold is that Coronaviruses mutate constantly. CoVid-19 is a member of the coronavirus family. They added the name "Novel" to it, which means "new" in latin, because virologists had never seen its type before. This particular bug has common cold aspects [coronavirus] but with add characteristics of SARS and HIV. For it to have these components would indicate it did not evolve "naturally". The have confirmed now it did NOT come from the Wuhan wet Market as originally stated by China. Because the odds of CoVid-19 happening naturally is VERY remote, most figure it is a Bio Weapon that either accidently, or intentionally, got released from the Bio Weapon's Lab located 20 miles from the Wuhan wet market. |

And sure they could have had a cold/flu but not Covid19. However if they do have Covid19 expect a lot more people to start to show up, the real tell will be ICU because you can't hide the ones reaching serious/critical. If we learned from Wuhan it starts to trickle in, then the beds start to fill, then the hospital fills up staff get infected, they end up taking priority over patients in the ICU then the government steps in and if in China... well... it isn't pretty what they have done to those people. We will know if it's really bad because you'll see people dying on the streets as we've seen in China... those are the people who kicked the virus (didn't get to serious) but had the nervous system infected. Keep an eye out for dying of seizures and organ failure from flu, guaranteed that will be Covid19. Of course pneumonia but they can just write that off as pneumonia. Thanks OP. So bottom line is that we who work in hospitals are screwed. We are not taking precautions now. People are walking into the hospital, no special triage, risk very downplayed to the staff. Instead of at least having us wear n95s and face shields now--in case we come in contact with asymptomatic patients --we are waiting until we see pts with obvious symptoms. Will be too late then. I'm sure this is in part due to the fact we have no where near the ppe we need especially since it can all be used once--can't be reused. And that means it must all be discarded each time leaving PT room and reapply upon reentering. Think about that and how much even just one shift would need. I am stunned by how we are treating this like its just a bad flu. If we do start having patients seizing and in acute respiratory distress we will be completely blindsided. Unfortunately, this is the history of pandemics that hospital staff are the first to contract it if no precautions are taken. If there was transparency and honesty about this virus you'd all be taking it very seriously but it's downplayed and people are normalcy-biased believing what they hear but not what they see. It's just taking hold globally and each week we will see more and more evidence of the seriousness of this like we have been. Remember it was late January when China started to lock down cities, so this event is really only 5 weeks old and see what it has done to the world in such a short window of time. It took Ebola a year to become a potential threat, this did that in 1 month. |

I work in a hospital with patients but I'm not a doctor so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I was told last night we've had 2 cases of "coronavirus" so far one as far back as last month but they weren't covid19. This came from someone else I work with who said the PTs were tested and it was "normal" coronavirus that we supposedly "can get and do routinely ge"t in this country. She is in a position to know directly what is going on. Quoting: telling it straight BTW both patients discharged. Is that actually true? I've never heard of American people getting coronavirus but maybe it's true? When I asked how we knew it wasn't covid19 since we weren't and couldn't test for that she just dismissed it as no big deal and I should ask the doc. She said "look on the back of a bottle of lysol, they even name it as something it kills. It's very common." So, no big deal, nothing to see here. I was happy to see other staff members VERY concerned about the virus but worried we don't have anywhere near enough PPE and there was a lot of concern about management downplaying the risk to staff. If this is typical of other hospitals in urban areas, and I suspect it is. We've got a problem. There are a lot of different coronaviruses ie the common cold is one of them. And sure they could have had a cold/flu but not Covid19. However if they do have Covid19 expect a lot more people to start to show up, the real tell will be ICU because you can't hide the ones reaching serious/critical. If we learned from Wuhan it starts to trickle in, then the beds start to fill, then the hospital fills up staff get infected, they end up taking priority over patients in the ICU then the government steps in and if in China... well... it isn't pretty what they have done to those people. We will know if it's really bad because you'll see people dying on the streets as we've seen in China... those are the people who kicked the virus (didn't get to serious) but had the nervous system infected. Keep an eye out for dying of seizures and organ failure from flu, guaranteed that will be Covid19. Of course pneumonia but they can just write that off as pneumonia. Thanks OP. So bottom line is that we who work in hospitals are screwed. We are not taking precautions now. People are walking into the hospital, no special triage, risk very downplayed to the staff. Instead of at least having us wear n95s and face shields now--in case we come in contact with asymptomatic patients --we are waiting until we see pts with obvious symptoms. Will be too late then. I'm sure this is in part due to the fact we have no where near the ppe we need especially since it can all be used once--can't be reused. And that means it must all be discarded each time leaving PT room and reapply upon reentering. Think about that and how much even just one shift would need. I am stunned by how we are treating this like its just a bad flu. If we do start having patients seizing and in acute respiratory distress we will be completely blindsided. And many of us have probably already been exposed. The top level specialists in infectious disease are treating this like a bad flu and in fact are saying we are more in danger of getting sick and dying from the flu than with this virus. Stop with the fear mongering. Stop already.  |

Everything O.P. is saying ,about this being a bio weapon ,are the same conclusions I have come to. I believe this is/was a multiple attack/deployment of bio weapons. There is a possibility there would be several strains released ? I guess we are in the denial phase at this point.
